How I built a brick workshop extension for only £800. Building a cheap workshop extension has freed up valuable garage space and allowed my to have a dedicated workshop area.
In part 1; I dig the foundations, pour the concrete footings and build a wall.
In part 2; I will put on the roof and do the finishing touches.

Impressive work, mate! You're a bit of a Jack of All Trades! Sorry for coming so late to your videos. They had disappeared in my massive to-watch list! I've just been reorganizing a couple thousand videos ... I'm never going to watch them all 😅 But I'm watching yours now!

Great job. If you did this in America you'd need approximately the GDP of Finland to obtain all of the required building permits. ;)

Hi there, great idea for this build. Do you have to get the permission from local council for building this extension?

Hi there. My background is quite broad but all engineering based. I spent some time doing fabrication / machining then some years in factory automation. I'm currently doing a PhD in automotive tyre modelling. Re bricklaying: I watched some videos on KZbin, there are some great tutorial / instructional videos out there. This was my first proper attempt at it though. Glad you are enjoying the channel. Thanks for commenting. 👍

I don't see it in the comments, so Im going to ask; What is the permit process like in the UK? Here in North NJ doing this is nearly impossible. However, people will do it at night and try to get away with it.

Over here there are two main routes. Depending on the size, location and use of the building (and a couple of other factors) you can either use; Permitted development or you have to apply for planning permission. This falls under permitted development which means I don't have to apply for anything which is great. You can get more information at www.planningportal.co.uk/ Cheers, hope that answers your question. 👍👍

It's a shame those bricks don't come with "butter" already on them. Soak them in water and stack them up... It's looking good, mate. Cheers.

What was the dimensions of the trench dig and how high did you go with the concrete??
@Handmadeextreme
@Handmadeextreme 4 жыл бұрын
If I remember correctly it is 3 times the width of the wall so 300mm along the main stretch then 600mm at the pier. I seem to recall it being about a meter deep. The concrete basically filled the trench completely. Maybe 100mm from the top. It was a few years ago now and it hasn't fallen down yet so i'm guessing it was ok haha. Thanks for watching.

The bottom half has stainless ties in. Then from the sills up it's tied in with the bricks themselves every other course.
