We are building a chicken coop in the lower level of our bank barn.
The chicken coop will be around 10 wide by 14 feet long. It will have a nest box with 5 nests that can be accessed from the outside to retrieve the chicken eggs. The coop will have a large entrance door to make it easier to clean out the coop.
Right now we have 23 chickens on our homestead. We also have 3 Nigerian dwarf goats. We would like to have all our animals in the barn, so we can take care of them out of the weather and rain.

Looks great. We call that door a stable door and it will be very handy. I like how you matched the door join with the planks you had going around the coop.

Looks great, don't forget to place an adjustable angled brace in your door from the upper hinged side corner to the lower non hinged side corner so you can lift your doors back into square as they sage. You can use a cable with a turn buckle so as it sages you just give it a few turns.

Really nice video. I don't have experience with carpentry and especially as a woman find it intimidating but this video is very inspiring because it's exactly what I want to do when I finally buy a home. Thanks again for the great video

Looking forward to seeing the finishing on this, it might help me decide what I want to do. I'm thinking of putting a coop in our barn, too, but I only have a three stall horse barn to work with, so I'm a bit unsure if I want to use a whole stall for chickens/fowl.

I was impressed watching your building/assembly work. You make it look so straight forward. When add onto (within) an existing structure i frequently forget that the existing elements will (most) often NOT be at right angles, not be flat, etc. :-)

Very nice work! I would love to have a barn like that to work with. We are still in the clearing stage... 35 acres of woods in North Florida. Your videos give me a lot of ideas. Keep them coming!
@CountryViewAcres

How much of an area are you clearing? Luckily my property was overgrown since it was abandoned for 5 years. Mostly brush and small trees. I didn't have to clear woods. I am sure that is a lot more work.

@@CountryViewAcres Right now we have about 1 acre cleared for our home site and a couple of acres of pasture. There is also about a 1 acre or so plot that used to be planted blueberries. There are still some there but a lot of cleanup is going to be needed to restore the rows. The plan is once the house is built we would like to raise perhaps some chickens and goats.

Thank you for showing using the mending/ nail plates. I had been wondering about those.

@@CountryViewAcres There are other plates. I used a different kind to hang 2 cross ties in my small chicken house. (I need to re-start my channel and get some content up.)

I hope this info is helpful The mending plates are available with holes for nails or screws. The ones with the formed spikes are intended for production work using a press - they are TRUSS or CONNECTOR PLATES rather than mending plates. www.mitek-us.com/products/Connector-Plates/

I'd look into using dowl rods wrapped in rope for the chickens. Or natural logs from a tree. The 2x4 have been known to cause bumble foot for chickens

Lots more building projects in your future. Instead of the plates, you might like pocket screws.

I know this is an older video but those plates are not designed to take the place of nails or screws. They will back out over time if you don't put a few nails in them.
