My only thing with the header is you combining the center port (front & rear rotor exhaust) and dumping both into the rear rotor header section. Inside that center exhaust port, you'll have pulses 180 degrees apart so combining both and dumping BOTH into the rear rotor is sure to cause an imbalance in flow. This may also effect the resonance in exhaust sound. If you redesign, I would divide the middle housing and keep each rotor exhaust pulses together before merging. You're experimenting so there's no harm in what you're doing right now.
@NathanaelNaused6 ай бұрын
Agreed. Don't see why you'd merge that into one side of the exhaust.
@smurfy42046 ай бұрын
I wondered this myself. I'd probably just extend the middle port to collect at the join of the 2
@Andyshobbies6 ай бұрын
Probably just logistics to get it all to weld together okay since it would need to be in the mess of the other 4 along with the tight fitting he wouldn’t be able to spread them out
@rotaryperfection6 ай бұрын
@@Andyshobbies It's all doable. You just have to be really crafty with your engine mount solution.
@williamporter74956 ай бұрын
Id imagine there would have to be a point down the line of the exhaust where any imbalances caused by exhaust pulsing would be dulled or near nullified?

I am also no airflow engineer, so I will be interested in seeing if you can determine what interference effect the centre port tube will have on pulses and final power figures (maybe very had to establish?) Love the fact that you just "do it" and learn from the results.

At the end of the day I'm not sure if the hybrid came about because there were too many GSL-SE housings and no way to move them. But I love that you are giving this a go and we will see what happens on the dyno. I am 1 of those who is super keen to see it as a na, just to see if it can match a peripheral ported engines hp output, after all it was Kyle who pushed a lot of our buttons, but hasn't followed through. I enjoy watching your channel and see what your creating, I don't have the answer to what makes a channel take off, from watching mighty car mods it appears they have built an audience over time, they have over 4 million subscribers, but nowhere near that watch the channel, they still say that their primary employment is in the music industry and KZbin is a side gig. I always like your videos and comment so that it helps your channel grow, keep plugging away and go as long as it meets yor needs😊

I know you mean well, and that you’re a sincerely nice guy, and I honestly appreciate you doing this. Because finally once and for all this is going to be the epic fail that nobody recognizes the truth about. Just as you said, the best pport 13B engines only have two 2” OD header pipes while making 300 - 350 whp. But now you have almost double the flow area, and instead of two distinct pulses it's all broken up into 5 contorted pulses coupled with the energy losses of doing that along with the open-close timing differences between the side and rotor housing ports that exacerbate the pulse weakening even more. IMO you’ll be lucky to get anywhere close to 175 whp. So 1/2 the pport hp at 2x the flow area means the velocity will go to crap and is going to make the previously described issue just that much worse. When in reality, the best unported hand built, balanced, and blueprinted Renesis engines will make a proven 220-230 whp. You just don’t understand any more than most people what makes the Renesis different than the previous 13B engines and is why it can generate that output level that with no overlap timing and no fancy header either. Because an engine with zero overlap can’t generate any meaningful exhaust pulse tuning at all. It’s all about the intake tuning, which what you’re doing now is going to throw all that off now too. You don’t comprehend any of that, but don’t feel bad. Even Kyle Mohan and most other prior 13B engine people don’t get it either. A turbo can mask some of that, but there’s no hiding from the reality that awaits you doing this NA. Yet, if you prove all those words to be wrong I’ll eat every last piece of egg off my face and thank you for the wonderful meal and also for showing me otherwise.
@VictorMPR6 ай бұрын
This is what I always come back to, just thinking about this. Not only is going “hybrid” adding overlap, but the effects of overlap may be minuscule because 2 other ports have allowed exhaust to start to exit already. As you also suggested, the overlap will make the OEM manifold useless, but I want to say he is going to use a different manifold. Or maybe I’m just remembering incorrectly. Someone in Malaysia built a hybrid just like this, with bridge ports and everything, and it made something like 230hp spinning to 10k rpm. I do believe, as you said, that a well built Renesis is capable of that, especially spinning to 10k. I give Rad all the props for trying this and posting it all on the… “Tubes” and I hope it makes some decent power. Anxious to see what happens!

The thing with hybrid builds is nobody announces their failures with them, or they go into witness protection. Hence why the results remain elusive. Personally, I think it would work better with the side ports blocked. Perhaps it could still be an easy experiment to try with blanking plates after it is running. Theory says this shouldn't work, but got to give the guy kudos for trying and got to love the commitment. I dont have the resources to do it if i wanted to, so happy to live vicariously. Dont think you will be getting a free meal of egg. However, the journey can sometimes be better than the destination

Just leave that 3" transition on the header and run a short section to the catback. You could always add a racing beat resonator in there later to calm it down. Cool project man!
@erek20756 ай бұрын
Split the manifold between each housing and iron to reduce thermal stress from dissimilar expansion rates. Port match those rectangles. Run full length primaries all the way to bumper. Later, you can add independent resonators to each primary -if- your dynomometer results indicate continuing down this path. You can also easily block off any combination of primaries to get empirical feedback. Do not merge anything.

I remember an old thread on some rx8 forum about using the middle exhaust port for a wastegate in a turbo setup. That idea never panned out, but I'm curious if it could be applied to this build, except use the oem rx8 side exhaust ports as well as the middle exhaust port, all 3 routed directly into a nice large wastegate, then use the 2 peripheral exhaust ports for the turbo. Not sure if it'd work, but it seems like it could be worth investigation.
@jasonskinner16526 ай бұрын
Bro. Please investigate and make your own comments about exhaust timing and velocity. Flow isn't everything. The pp exhaust will start flowing good, then the velocity will drop off as the side exhaust ports open. It's a minefield when looking into it. My theory is to use super small 'tubes' for the renesis side ports so you don't hinder the pp flow. Also the renesis intake already opens super early, so you will get plenty of overlap. I think you will get 200hp out of her, but I also think a log manifold would be best for the crazy exhaust flow and timing. I'm keen to see you make something out of the OG manifold for the home DIY guy to follow. Good luck with your manifold bro. It's a piece of art.

Should have a great pulse at idle once the timing correction in versatuner is tweaked. The factory ecu is very good at trying to smooth the idle for consistent vacuum. With a bit of tweaking you can dumb the ecu. Should sound fantastic at idle, which, if it doesnt make hp, will add to the theatre of it

Great work! That 90° entry for the siamese port, is not doing any favors for flow however. It's good that it enters downstream, but it seems more ideal to merge it after the 2 Y's connect and at a less severe angle. Also, just get rid of the 2.5" section, there's no reason to go back down when the cat back is 3". 100% agree deleting the side ports altogether would be a much better solution, but how?..... 🤔

Food design but it would be nice to flow it with equal ammount of water on each runner to see its volume, its a great way to test it if its actually merging at the same point, all that is fun and games but what matters is : get a compressor and spray air into each hole to see if by any chance you didnt made a exhaust with reverse flow, small ammout but surely is a power gain. Good luck with the project

my thought is it not having enough back pressure and that was my thought as to why they blocked the other ports when doing the other hybrid builds. If that is a case, then you can do an exhaust manifold that is port matched to the hybrid and reduced out and tapered down in size for the square ports, that way you use all the exhaust ports and get the right/custom amount of back pressure and or compression especially with all the overlap with the bridge port added.
@scotty3056 ай бұрын
Back pressure never helps. Velocity is important, as well as avoiding reversion if adding overlap.
