After watching this video it made me realize how simple and very straight forward, so I told myself that I can do it so I took the first step and bought the body and pickguard for a start. I have conductive shielding paint that I like to apply a liberal coat covering all cavities. I also like to drill out neck screw holes in body to ensure good connectivity between neck and body, also after stringing loosen screws and retighten to let strings pull neck into pocket tighter, all adds to sustain and better tone.

Very well composed and narrated. I suggest adding copper tape shielding to the pickup and control plate cavities. These should then be soldered together with insulated wire and then soldered to the ground wire in the control plate cavity. I do this treatment to my guitars and it reduces the pesky 60 Hz hum.

Great video. You are one of the rare guitar review people who actually make detailed comments on the playability of the instruments instead of diving straight in to how the guitars sound. I think there is far far more variation in the playability and quality of guitars than in subjective sound differences. Too many videos seem to be “hey check out this new pickup versus the stock pickup!” Both played with high gain and no real discernible difference.

On my second T-Guitar kit... the first was an inexpensive kit made in China. My second build is a Wilkinson, better quality and still under $400 bucks. . . @@landonbailey You said about how it would have been a real disaster if you'd drilled right through the headstock. A tip for you that I use when I don't want to drill too deep is measure the depth you want to drill then measure the drill bit and put tape around it above that depth (I use red electricians tape). That way it's easier to see exactly how deep you're drilling. Great build video!

Started playing again after 25 years because my hand was messed up in Astan and my doc said I needed to do something to combat the damage to it and arthriris from my decade in the army (a lefty guitar would have suited and been easier but she and my wife said no). I love your builder series of videos! Those roasted maple necks are really nice. I was surprised to see how it has a glossy looking fingerboard. I thought they all came with a satin finish fingerboard. Nice looking Tele. I like all the color choices and other parts. Your idea of screwing the neck in a little bit on each one and alternating is how I tune up a fresh set of strings. I bring each string up a bit on high E, low E, then A-B, and D-G. Rinse and repeat until they all are at correct pitch. I’m going to be checking out Obsidian. I hate soldering.

Good work Landon! Ironically you just built nearly the exact guitar I put together on Fenders web site last year. I love that color. About the only thing I'd have done differently is to have a maple neck with a rosewood fingerboard and Texas Special pickups.

Your video has inspired me to think about picking up the guitar for the first time since 1978. Helped a buttload. Always wondered what those screws on the bridge were for. Maybe that's why I sounded like crap. Or maybe because I was a shitty player. We didn't have Internet or KZbin back then. But we did have Eddie Van Halen and Tom Scholz so I guess that's a puny excuse.

I was a little confused about the neck pickup mounting. The pickups that I got (Lindy Fralin Blues Special) came with both screws (the wood screws on the left in your video, and the machine screws on the right in your video). They explained that you should use the wood screws for body mount, and machine screws for pickup mount. In both cases, they still used the rubber spacers, no springs.
