As a full time bike mechanic I would like to say that building Matt’s bike was definitely not a nightmare of a build. I’ve seen truly horrifying bikes in my time as a mechanic that made me want to bang my head into the wall.

never do a drop off in the big cog, chain wasn't fitted checking for chain growth through the travel with the location of the slash pivot there will be some growth under compression. not much but with how tight that chain is in the big cog not much might be to much

@Aceton_
@Aceton_ 2 жыл бұрын
I bought a cheap air compressor which actually works quit solid since it only was 20 bucks. I tried pumping up my tubless tire with a floor pump and i couldn't get them to see after 30mins of pumping swearing and nearly crying I just bought that cheap air compressor. It's quit loud but gets the job done. Probably a better floorpump would work aswell but it would've Coste more that that compressor so🙄

Just a heads up, when doing a 12 speed sram chain you need to account for 2 inner and outer links when sizing the chain. Idk why but that’s what all the sram info states. Pre sure it has to do with the longer cage of the derailleur.
@samstephensmtb
@samstephensmtb 2 жыл бұрын
I think it’s more for when the chain is in the climbing gears and you compress the shock, extra links would prevent the chain from affecting compression of the shock. I usually fully deflate and compress the shock and then do what Jason did to size a chain.
@_MC_-gw6yp
@_MC_-gw6yp 2 жыл бұрын
@@samstephensmtb u are absolutely correct sir! U need to keep in mind the movement of the rear triangle. Almost every full suspension bike frame decreases the length between the bottom racket and the rear axle when in full squish, so u should size the chain with the shock out and and the frame in the compressed position 💁‍♂️ 6 years of bike service and multiple errors of mine taught me the right way to do it. Ps: his chain is too short 🥹

It went together easily in less than an hour. kzbin.infoUgkxHL1v1R3NE5x4KiYfyt8dnQmyNYz7qi5L Make sure the front fork is forward or the pedals will hit the front tire. Tires are both a little soft so it needs air before I ride it. The rear wheel didn't come with a clamp regular bolts hold it on. The front had the clamp. No scratches out of box. Rims are a little off with a slight wobble. They could have spent more time with the spoke tool fixing the run out. So far out of the box I'm happy with it. I did replace the pedals with a nice aftermarket set. After riding it a bit my A$$ is a bit sore so I ordered another seat. Overall I'm nearly 60 and didn't ride a bike in 30 years. I like my new 29" Schwinn. It will be used for casual rides with my friend.

11:07 I also chipped my frame once when the chain whipped around. Would've demented a carbon rear triangle. Always use a double hook made from half a spoke when playing with chains. I've had many slinky onto the dirt under the bike lol
@_MC_-gw6yp
@_MC_-gw6yp 2 жыл бұрын
That is some bad advice man! 🤣 It’s so unnecessary to take the cage apart 🙄 just shift to the smallest cog, pull the cage forward, secure it with the cage lock and then take the master link apart… there will be no tension on the chain when u do it like this.
@janeblogs324
@janeblogs324 2 жыл бұрын
@@_MC_-gw6yp the master links are 1 or 2 use, they wear out. Maybe you've never snapped a chain and gone over the bars. The single 4mm cap screw on your lower cage wheel will last forever and requires no special tools, just a 4mm
@_MC_-gw6yp
@_MC_-gw6yp 2 жыл бұрын
@@janeblogs324 no… You can reuse MasterLinks but you shouldn’t reuse MasterLocks if we are talking specifically about Sram. But you can reuse certain chain links from other brands (KMC, YBN, Sram), but of course what I mean by that is that you can unlink it and link together while it’s new or if you are cleaning the chain, but you should always throw the quick link out with the old chain. And yes I did snap chain multiple times on my DJ bike but it was always because of lack of maintenance or because the chain got damaged on impact. In most of the cases the chain snaps because of bad shifting and most of the time it snaps in the place with normal links, because they can actually take less lateral force than a quick link.
