I’ve never spent 12 minutes watching someone build some shelving and tidy away some stuff but that video was engaging, inspiring and calming.

This video is all of my aspirations in one piece: -Wanting a chaotic, messy storage space -Wanting it to be homemade. -Easy to make and get starting into woodworking as a thirteen year old with no money. -Something to work on with my dad on.

I really like how your videos always go a little deeper than the project itself. They're so much more personal, about yourself and your unique experience.

You can mount any black-bodied Singer machine into that table. The one advantage of a single company dominating an industry for that long is they accidently created plug & play. This is my first video, but I suspect you'd enjoy an old hand-cranked one. Those machines are beasts - they can sew through canvas and leather. Your storage system is fantastic. Well done, Sir. I like your storytelling style. - Cathy (&, accidently, Steve), Ottawa/Bytown/Pimisi

This was a really special video, thank you for sharing :) Seeing the history of each of the pieces is so beautiful, and even though the build is now something new, each piece is still embedded with story and thought. I'm glad that desk storage bit is still there- it'll be a good piece to follow through the years. And that combined with woodworking- woodworking with 2 by 4's is such a simple and comforting thing to watch. And you get beautiful moments like 5:38 - it's a perfect Tetris match! Love it! Great video. Can't wait to see where things take you next :>

the name 2x4 comes from the rough cut size, which was supposed to be milled by the customer or retailer. once they realized that they could save money on shipping by premilling it the size started shrinking year after year
@radianttakanuva838810 ай бұрын
This video came at the right time. I've been struggling with workshop organization, made from similarly rickety and haphazard found materials. I'll be consolidating tools and moving my workshop soon. And I got frustrated seeing fancy squared off systems made from baltic birch ply, or other good lumber. But maybe I should just get some 2x4s and go for it - I really like the stackable design made from 2x4s rather than relying on any cut joints too.
@mangeh952010 ай бұрын
First time ever I see one of your vids. But I really liked how you "just" used some left over 2x4 to create this functional storage that feels pleasant and interesting to look at. Well done!

30 seconds in. Pausing. I am excited to watch this video, just like I am with many other DIY videos. But before you tear it all down I must say: I love the charme of the first seconds here. It looks like a place an experienced craftsman has dwelled in for 40+ years. It has this oldschool cool vibe to it, like grandpas garage where he stored all his hardware and was able to repair basically everything. So far, not having seen the result, I am not totally sold on the idea of tearing it all down. I love the before! Now let's see what there is to come...
@mirrimdimdom9 ай бұрын
Alright. You kept the charme. Was relieved, seeing the key pieces (metal drawers, filing cabinet and ammo boxes) still being part of the overall wall.

My house was built in 1882 and the walls are all framed with 2 x 4s that actually measure 2 x 4. I think over the years the size has changed so they could save a penny here and there on the lumber. Gutted my house to the studs and the difference in old and new lumber sizes made it real interesting to marry old and new construction.

I am so envious of the price of wood in the US. In central EU these boards run 10+ dollars. Factor in an average wage that is ~1/4 that of the US and it’s hard to build fun stuff. Luckily free/cheap pallets can still be found and old wood from renovations pops up sometimes.

My recommendation would be to make the modules for the shelves stackable and/or fitting the cargo shelves and then just buying cargo shelves like the one you got already. You replicated the shelves you got already which i dont understand.
