I was trying to figure out what you were doing with the red pvc strip- any cues?
@TheEberharts9 ай бұрын
The red strip is a plastic plug you cut and hit into a drilled hole, this is so you can use regular screws into concrete and masonry! 🙂

This is exactly what I hope to do with my aging and very crooked concrete porch. I noticed that you had the lowest weatherboards removed. I was going to simply butt the edge of the decking against the weatherboard. would you recommend that I take off the lowest boards? I have recently had the house restumped after probably 100 years (!) and so the sides of the house are lower than the middle. I was thinking that i could manage the variance with the height of the joists - making them slightly taller than the middle. Any thoughts on the approach?

Hi 😊 that approach seems fairly reasonable! You can certainly adjust the overall heights to suit a particular low point, so long as it's very gradual. Taking the lower board off makes it easier to install the joist and last board to the home, much neater! I hope it works out well!

Awesome video, about to do the same. Did you anchor those wood joists into the concrete? Did you just use shams to get them to the level height?
@TheEberharts3 ай бұрын
Thanks! Yes the joists are directly fixed to the concrete slab with packers to level the area out. 😊

What grade of timber was used for the joists? H3, H4, H5? Will there be a problem with the joists rotting if they become submerged in water after it rains? Or is it not a concern due to being under a verandah?
@TheEberharts2 ай бұрын
It's not a concern as this area is under the verandah and also under a large eave as well. 🥰

@@TheEberharts Thanks. I plan on doing a similar project but unfortunately it isn't on a sheltered area.

what size were the wood strips that you nailed to the concrete
@TheEberharts8 ай бұрын
Hi there, the strips were 45mm x 45mm which is an ideal depth for decking screws.
