That's one of the better tutorials I've seen. I really like the dark stain you used on your board, as it makes the playing surface "pop." Thank you for sharing your project.

The hex is easier to store at least. It doesn't look quite like the platonic ideal of a crokinole board, but it has its own charm.

Would have liked to see more on how you make the seam on the edge band, also are your drawn with a sharpie or routed? Also tips on a template stick would have been nice.

I'm just starting to make a board myself so I'm doing the same thing you did and watching as many videos as possible. I'm glad I found your video, as the wood filler idea seems like a genius solution to what could otherwise be a fiddly problem. The board looks great man! What is the weight of your finished board? I'm considering adding a bracket underneath to allow me to hang mine on the wall. I'm looking at the brackets used to hang dartboards, but wondering if the weight of the crokinole board would be too much for it
@briarbuilt3283
@briarbuilt3283 22 күн бұрын
I don't know the total weight off hand, but mine does hang on the wall. I bought a French cleat style hanger that's meant for heavy objects.

Great job. I want to make one too. When I printed out the jig PDF the lines came out at 3 7/8" from center and not 4 inches like the one you show. Do you still have the jig PDF you used?

The jig I used is here... drive.google.com/file/d/1NHAPv9N6zJgRjO280pAcbCyJJ_pmeyXc/view Not sure why your sizes would come out different. Maybe make sure your scale is at 100% when printing?

What is the orange drill jig that seems to act like a portable drill stabilizer? (Drill press light?)
@briarbuilt3283
@briarbuilt3283 3 жыл бұрын
Its a drill guide which helps drilling straight holes when you can fit a piece on your drill press table. The orange one in this video was a cheap harbor freight one that I got in a pinch. It wasn't that great. I've since gotten a Milescraft 1318 Drillmate which is much more stable but still affordable.

I don’t know if you’ll get this on a year old video, but what kind of plywood did you use. I’ve seen some with maple, oak, even a couple with pine (which I didn’t think would be great)?
@briarbuilt3283
@briarbuilt3283 Жыл бұрын
Hey Jason, It's been a minute but I'm pretty sure it was the maple stuff. You definitely want the higher grade "sanded" stuff. Not the pine decking or whatever cheap stuff they have. But Oak, Birch, Maple, I'm sure any would be perfectly fine for this. Just need to make sure you can sand it to a nice finish.

What depth did you set your router for the concentric circles?
@briarbuilt3283
@briarbuilt3283 Жыл бұрын
I went too deep actually. I think I went almost an 1/8th deep which was just a waste of filler. You could probably do like 1/16th of an inch and be fine.

So I just put 1st coat of poly. How long did you wait before doing the wood filler? And did you scuff up the poly prior to doing the wood filler?
@briarbuilt3283
@briarbuilt3283 5 ай бұрын
Follow whatever the poly you're using recommends for time. Usually it's only a couple of hours. I didn't scuff before wood filler. Good luck and have fun!

Great video man! Just a suggestion as a fellow crokinole player. I bought a board cuz I'm not as talented as you, but I put a lazy susan bearing on the bottom of the board so you can spin it. Makes lining up shots alot easier.

Is that a Ridgid R4513 folding job site saw? I have the same one. That fence is hot garbage. No matter how many times I adjust the fence its never straight. I measure with a caliper and everything. If you managed to get it straight, you should do a video on that.
@briarbuilt3283
@briarbuilt3283 Жыл бұрын
Yeah, it's a Rigid job site saw. Yes, the fence is hot garbage. I managed to get it somewhat usable, but it's never been great. I've since upgraded my shop saw to a Sawstop, so I'm only using the Rigid on actual job sites where it's less important to be super precise, but it's still a pain in the butt. I wouldn't ever recommend this saw to anyone.

I don’t have legal size paper. Just normal letter size 8.5 x 11. I don’t know have an option that’s going to have it scaled correctly on my Mac. Any suggestions would be much appreciated!!

Use adobe acrobat and select the Poster option when printing. It will print out multiple sheets at scale that you tape together to make the full image. That's how I did it.

Can you make the surface too slick?
@twt3716
@twt3716 Жыл бұрын
Obviously a clever and skilled guy, but why make the board so sticky ? The surfaces are supposed to be super slippery so the disks travel fast with the slightest shove. Still, beautifully made.
@-OokySpooky-
@-OokySpooky- 4 ай бұрын
Not sure why you think it's sticky, its been properly sanded, given 3 proper coats of polyurethane, then waxed and buffed to a perfectly flat mirror shine
