Nice project and, to this old, retired professional guitarist, a bit disconcerting at the 9:14 mark. I point this out because my father was a machinist ("Back in the day") and the shop where he worked from 1955 to 1979 had a father-son team that both were missing the lower half of their left forearms that were removed, years apart, at the same band saw by the same "Oops".

Good stuff! I’ve done this a few times, took the brass backs before fitting new blades with hardened teeth!

Sounds cool man have you made a video of it? Only problem with hardened teeth is you can't resharpen them easily

@@Labrador-Woodworking The last one I done was a Dovetail saw it’s a Wheatman And Smith Russell Works, about 150 years old, blade was in very poor condition, the stamped brass back looks nostalgic! replacing the blade with a hardened teeth blade was just the way I wanted to do it and it can be touched up with a diamond file if need be. As you know yourself it’s all part of the passion and interest in the craft!

Nice work ! looks like you prefer a super high hang angle on your dovetail saws, that’s the sweet thing about making your own handles, they can be however you like!

Thank you, in all honesty I made it like that for aesthetic reasons but I really like it. It causes you to naturally lift the toe of the saw which helps with not cutting to deep on the side you can't see.

Thanks for the video. I have almost the identical saw I am planning to restore and a nice new pretty handle would be cool. Have subscribed and liked. Regards James One Handed Maker Australia

Instead, why not remove the brass, cut the saw, refit the brass make new holes put the handle back. Sharpen the saw and The End.

What would be the benefit of doing it that way? I just did it the way it made sense to in my head, plenty of other ways to do it. I used the brass back to measure the depth of cut I wanted on the saw. I also didn't want to remove the brass back if possible as I'd read it could be a pain to put back on afterwards 🙃
