Hi Folks and welcome to Part 2 of this "how-to" build guide of my first ever Kyosho RC kit! It's the Kyosho Scorpion 1/10 RC Off Road Racer, 2014 re-release rear-wheel drive (RWD) buggy. In this part, I cover steps 16 to the end of the build manual which includes the completion of the front suspension, steering and fitting of the radio tray and electronics. Finally I complete the polycarbonate body with a custom paint job using Tamiya PS-23 gunmetal grey, backed with PS-5 black and Tamiya PS-6 yellow.
The motor I have fitted is an Absima Thrust B-Spec 21 double-turn rebuildable brushed motor.
After years of building and running Tamiya RC kits, I'm really excited to get this finished Kyosho buggy out on the dirt for a bit of a thrashing!
This fantastic 1/10 RC buggy kit consists of mainly aircraft-quality aluminium components. It promises to be a good running and strong, reliable RC car. I hope you enjoy the Build!
To see the fist 15 steps of the build, please feel free to view Part 1 one of the build guide here:
• How to Build a Kyosho ...
Another massive shout-out to my great friend, Barry of @Barry's RC Dump : / @barrysrcdump3557
...for sending this awesome kit as a gift. The racing number 7 on the body is in tribute to the awesome Barry Sheene 500cc GP motorcycle racer. Thank you so much, Barry!

Wow, Mark, that came out great! That contrast between the metallic black and the bright yellow, just superb, and lots of awesome stickers, you really nailed it! I can't wait to see it again, filmed in natural light and see it fired up, out in the dirt where it belongs! It's of course special for me, since I'll be building the Beetle this spring (if it ever gets spring), so I think I'll be coming back and watching these videos again. I think all the other build videos I have seen with this chassis, they haven't been as in-depth as yours, so especially for the front steering and suspension, I think it'll be a good idea to watch this an extra time. Did I mention I love how your paint job came out! Have a great weekend there, my friend!

Hello my friend Mads! I'm really pleased you approve of the colour contrast. It's simple but effective, I think. Yeah, it will be good to get this buggy outside and film it actually moving! Good god mate, that shell is EPIC - technically stunning. It's arguably the best looking buggy I've ever seen, so damned impressive. Hats off on this one. It's so cool it's almost a shame to run it - but a crime not to, so I'm looking forward to the run. I know what you mean about the retro 1970's F1 scheme. In subtle ways it reminded me of the Lotus JPS - not the same but certainly headed in that direction. Very, very nice mate and a massive improvement on the box art. Totally love this RC, I can't give praise enough. Brilliant..😍😍. Have a cool weekend - gawping at this beauty...👍🏻🙏🏼👍🏻...and then admire it some more.

Hi mate, I was hoping that you would approve of my design for this one and I'm so pleased that I didn't disappoint! I'm glad you understood my thinking on this bodywork, and SPOOKY!! I did have the Lotus JPS in mind when coming up with the design and paint - yes it's not exactly the same, but it's the same "flavour" which obviously you picked up on! We think very much alike, my friend, obviously! Your praise is well received indeed, you have made my day with this comment. Have a smashing weekend yourself, take care, mate! Hello and great to hear from you! I'm very happy that my video was helpful in fixing the problem. It is very easy to make a mistake with that front axle, I found it very tricky! Hi Mark, that’s a terrific build of that great looking Kyosho. I like the metal construction of the chassis members etc…makes it feel like a real quality kit. Your take and tribute to the awesome Mr Barry Sheen is really nice. The metallic effect and paint scheme really suits the model, it just goes to show, that not throwing anything away, you’ll never know when it might come in use. Spare paints, all sorts. It would be interesting to see how it performs against its rival the WildOne. Really like the paint job, the box art is just a bit too much yellow!! I love the gun metal and black mix as well and it sucks about the big blotch on the side but once you got the stickers on it I would not have noticed if I were not looking for it! Painting this time of year is kind of hit or miss really!! It really turned out nice and it should be a really good runner as well!
@MarkBryanRC
@MarkBryanRC 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Addam, I agree, too much yellow for my liking on the box art. Even that small amount of gunmetal changed the whole look, I thing many other colours would also make a good accent on the body. Yeah, I think that blotch was caused where my hand was touching the Lexan and warming it up. Never mind, these things happen. Definitely a bad time of year for painting, so I'm doing kits with pre-painted bodies first from now on! All the best to you, my friend!

Hiya matey. Wow that looks the business. I like what you did with the two colour body. Better than box art I'd say. I'm still building mine. I got slightly stuck with trying to fit the brushless set in. I've ended up drilling more holes in the plastic tub. You'll see what I mean when I eventually get the video out. The Scorpion and Turbo Scorpion are really pretty similar. You know I never thought of finding something 4mm thick to set the front suspension to the right angle. Obvious now I've seen you do it. Anyway I had it large last night and lasted till 3:30am which ain't bad at my age. The DJ who was supposed to be there (Ferry Corsten) had Covid and couldn't make it. The good news is that we had a great night out and can get a refund on the ticket. Hope all is well mate. Best wishes 😃

Hey Pete, I hope you have recovered from that bender! Not bad staying power for an old 'un! Certainly better than I could have done, young man! And a free night out, it doesn't get better than that. Ah, yes, the buggy! Glad you like the paint, I thought it needed something to break up all that yellow. I'm interested to see your build videos after hearing about your build, holes, eh?!?!?! It's gotta be done, sometimes. Hope your Sunday is going well, enjoy what's left before we have to work again! Take care my friend!

Hey Mark. Love the colour scheme. I had that crazing or bleeding problem once due to painting while it was really cold. Not sure if that's got anything to do with it but worth mentioning I guess. Can't wait to see it run!

Hi Jon and thanks for the great comment. Oh yeah, good point about the cold, I think you could be correct about it causing the crazing. Cheers for that. All the best from Mark...

After building a Scorpion and a Turbo Optima kit (and turned the Turbo Optima into a Javelin) it’s really hard to build a non Kyosho kit. The quality and all the metal on the Kyosho is so enjoyable too Build. They are also relatively easy to work on.

Hi John, I totally agree with you on all points! I aim to get more Kyosho kits in the future, it's just cashflow that stops me at the moment! Thanks for sharing your thoughts! 😎👍

@@MarkBryanRC They are more expensive to start than Tamiya but most Tamiya cars you have to buy bearings which are another $20 usd and sometimes other items to make them usable. I’d suggest an Optima kit for you. In the US they are under $300. It’s a super nice kit.

I built my kit a few years ago. I did not use calipers, I just followed the 1:1 on the instructions. I also did not use the bottom landing dampers. I bought other dampers from Kyosho for this car. The after market dampers from Kyosho work great. Thoughts?
@MarkBryanRC

Hi Alfred, thanks for the info! I'm unsure how well these stock dampers will work but I'll give them a go. At least I now know there is a solution if they are no good. I'll definitely give my thoughts on then after a few runs - cheers!
