Thanks for posting. The problem with the video is the wheels. They are not standard, nor are easily available. This sets up a problem using the standard EV3 wheels where the color sensor is so close to the surface, it doesn't function. This makes this design not practical for many. I do thank you for explaining the attachment mechanism. That should be useful.

This isn't from a true base kit, as part way through building it you mentioned a second medium motor and a second light sensor. The base kits only have one of each. I didn't know you could add extra motors or sensors that are not available in the base home or education EV3 sets, if using for FLL. I'm I wrong? So, now I've taken it to pieces to find a better solution maybe that uses no more than whats actually supplied.
@ZacharyTrautwein5 жыл бұрын
Hi! Very true. I do mention adding an extra medium motor and an extra light sensor. However, in order for this particular robot to complete the robot games for FLL you do not need to add the extra light sensor and motor. As for your question about using more LEGO that is not included in the base Education kits: The Challenge guide (firstinspiresst01.blob.core.windows.net/fll/2019/FIRST-FLL-2018-19-ChallengeGuide-A4.pdf)says: "R01 - ALL EQUIPMENT All Equipment must be made of LEGO-made building parts in original factory condition. Except: LEGO string and tubing may be cut shorter. Except: Program reminders on paper are OK (off the Field). Except: Marker may be used in hidden areas for identification." And "R03 - MOTORS You are allowed up to FOUR individual motors in any particular Match. • You may include more than one of a type, but again, your grand total may not be greater than FOUR." So you do not need to stick to ONLY the parts provided in the base Educational sets. I hope this provides some clarification. Thanks for the dialogue!

Pick which side to place the sensor if you only have one. The placement of any sensor depends on the task for which that sensor is used. What mission is the robot trying to accomplish? What is the best way to accomplish it? These questions will determine where to place the sensor.

Hello Zachary, despite the power of 30 on the engines, the direction is very straight. The robot turns slightly to the left. Over a distance of 1m, it deviates by 2-3cm. Is this normal? Should we work on different powers (for example 30 and 30.3) or with the sensors? What do you advise? thank you in advance
@ZacharyTrautwein7 жыл бұрын
hi! I've found 2-3 cm does not seem unreasonable. LEGO motors have a ton of "play" in them. I advise my teams to use sensors to adjust themselves. I also advise them to use the walls to "reset" the robot mid runs.

+Pamela Danbusky Hi! I believe that only one color/light sensor comes in the base kit. You can browse amazon.com for a EV3 color sensor, or if you do not want to buy another sensor, I would recommend that you put the light sensor on the front right of the robot!

Have you built an ev3 with real/only base kit parts, That will work with 2017 hydrodynamic challenge ?
@ZacharyTrautwein7 жыл бұрын
+Donna Robinson hi Donna! So, every part with the exception of the wheels on this robot is available in the base kit. Maybe a few of the sensors as well. You can do the Hydro Dynamics game with one color sensor on the front of the robot just fine. If you’d like to build one of these robots you can hop on bricklink.com and look up part numbers 2903 and 2902. Those are the wheels and tires. You can pick some up for a few bucks! We’ve found these wheels to be far more accurate and consistent. I would recommend the upgrade for the small price! Let me know if you have any questions!
