Building a Lightsaber at Savi's Workshop 2022 4K - Galaxy's Edge, Disney World FULL EXPERIENCE

May the 4th be with you! Recently I was with the family in Florida and my daughter and I built custom lightsabers at Savi's Workshop. It was great fun! The collector who walked us through the process was really good. After the experience, we went over to Doc-Ondar's to get some accessories. Doc-Ondar is one of the best animatronics that I've ever seen. I have a great shot of him at the end of this video.

I tried to go and do this a couple days ago when I visited Galaxy’s Edge and the staff told me it was a reservation only experience, when I did research and it never said that on the website… so I bought Dooku’s instead and I’ll make a reservation next time I go, but it was soul crushing because they could have said that on the website or put up a sign or something at least

Yeah I agree. It seems like they need to provide training on just attending the parks with how complicated things are getting, with reservations for the park, and experiences, and Genie+, Lightning Lanes, etc. it’s rarely obvious.

Sorry dude, but that's at least partially on you. They *did* say it on the website, you just missed it. Below the "check availability" section is "Know before you go" and it lists reservation guidelines. You say you did "research", did you only look on the official site? Because there are plenty of guides/reviews written by others that talk about how to get a lightsaber. Some of this stuff can be confusing (especially the Rise of the Resistance ride and how to do a virtual queue), and they could have made the website a bit more obvious. But the info was there, and now you know for next time to double check the availability of certain things.

I built my lightsaber last week at Savi's in Orlando. I chose green in honor of Luke Skywalker and Master Yoda, my hilt was the Peace And Justice model. I was surprised by how heavy it was.

I chose green too! Yeah they are surprisingly heavy. Sometime looking at them you might think that they are plastic, but once you pick it up, they are heavy and solid metal. Nice. Glad you enjoyed it!

I had the same collector as well back in March when I built mine. Went with peace and justice with purple blade. They had the black carry bags when I was there. Also picked up the Darksaber at Doc's.

No, not yet. I have an R2 and BB-8 from Sphero and haven’t quite been tempted enough to build one. Got close the last time I was there, though, so I might next time I go. They sell an upgraded R2 dome that’s made out of metal and lights up that looks really cool. I might go that direction

You need to make a reservation a while in advance before going. I believe it’s up to 60 days before you go. I am going again in the end of July, and I just checked and there are no openings at Savi’s. I think reservations open up at 3am, 60 days in advance of the day you are targeting. People do cancel so it would be worth checking back. As for payment, you do need to provide a card to reserve but it won’t be charged. You can cancel a day in advance with no problem, but if you are a no-show, then they’ll charge your card for it. Hope that helps!

You choose your saber before you go in and they give you a pin, that you can see on my shirt before we go in. They see your pin and give you the corresponding parts. The color of the crystal is your choice that you make in the moment.

Considering I'm going to be going to Galaxy's Edge in January I'll be able to get one of these lightsabers for my birthday I want to recreate my saber from Star Wars Jedi Fallen order sadly I don't see the Jaro Tapal emitter pieces... I believe I used Protection and Defense II for the switch and Protection and Defense I for the sleeve (the handle) in the game I used the duraplast material because I like white and the blade is naturally going to be purple because I need to go by my favorite color combination of white purple and gold I can't wait to go make my own lightsaber for my birthday. It also doesn't look like I'll be able to have the double ended lightsaber or have it split down the middle so I can dual wield im basically trying to get all the features from the game lol

It seems the experience at Walt Disney World differ than that of the one at Disneyland. Hmmm, It is a popular thing to do! For those who complain, it’s an option, you don’t have to build it. If you want a prebuilt one, go to the Dok Ondar shop. Still some will complain, then just don’t bother or make your own at home. 🤫

I'm not sure. I believe the pieces would be interchangeable, so if you built separate sabers in the experience but then after the face swapped out some of the pieces, that would probably work. I think the threading on the pieces is all the same. I just don't know if they'd want to you do that in the experience. But also, they are fairly regimented in the way it goes so they may not take the time to tell you not to swap pieces.

I wish they picked a more open ended dialogue for some of their stuff. Its almost become just a giant ad for just rey. Like i wish they implimented more from the rest of the star wars universe and didnt hound so hard on the last three main titles. Id love to see some more prequel stuff. References as well as merch and attractions.

I think that’s bound to happen. With the sequel trilogy done and most of the attention shifting to the post Jedi era, I bet they’ll either open up the land to more time periods or do a time shift to earlier. They are already having Boba Fett wander around. Hopefully this will translate into some changes to this lightsaber building experience too.

With that you get a pin that represents the type of lightsaber you’re building, the lightsaber including the custom hilt, kyber crystal, the blade, and a carrying bag. And the experience, of course. I agree with you that they kind of look cheap in images and stuff, but the parts are made out of steel and are really solid. I totally get it, though, if you have a particular character saber you want, you should get that because none of the sabers at Savi’s look like a particular character. I have the Anakin/Luke/Rey saber and they are pretty close in quality. But definitely go for what you like. That Cal Kestis saber is awesome

No, they are a pretty hard plastic for the blade. The hilts are a cast metal that is painted.

The Disneyland one requires a reservation as well. But I was there at the end of July and checked and I would have been able to get a reservation at least 2 days before if I wanted to. You may have a hard time with a same-day reservation, but you can get pretty close, I think.

You do need park admission and a reservation for the experience that requires a credit card to hold the reservation that will be charged only if you don't show up. At the beginning of the video you see us with red tickets in our hands. Those are our "credentials" which function as a ticket to get into the experience after we've paid for it just outside there.

Yes they do. It’s a long fabric bag with a strap. Inside is something like a pool noodle that the blade goes in for protection. They are actually pretty nice.

There are additional colors that you can get in Doc Ondar’s than what is available in this experience. I think they have basically all of the colors introduced in canon. I’m sure they could always add more if there are characters who have new colors.

No, they don’t currently have anything like that there. You can buy one at Doc Ondar’s though. In theory you could connect two of theee sabers together if you had a coupler to attach them where the pummels go, but that would have to be some kind of custom part if you could find the right threading on a pipe.

I am torn between the experience this offers and Saberforge. Saberforge is less pricey for about the same quality, depending on what you want. And as what I want is a canesaberstaff, the forge seems like a better option than the workshop. Problem being, I would rather have the aesthetics of the natural elements parts for the thing I want over the forge's stock industrial look.

Yeah, I understand. I guess it just all depends on what you’re after. If I was just buying a lightsaber, I’d pick out a saber that’s a replica of one from a character, like Luke’s lightsaber. But with Savi’s, it was the experience that really sold me on it, which was really cool. That along with the quality saber made the price right for me. But if all I wanted as a custom saber, I’d probably go somewhere else too.

@@DennisAwayFromHome I don't think anything ever beats Savi's experience of building the lightsabers. It's ... out of my price range, unfortunately, entirely, because not only do you have to pay for the experience, you also have to pay to even get into the park, plus gas and food expenses. If money wasn't an issue, I'd gladly spend an entire day - or even week - exploring teh Galaxy's Edge stuff and doing all the activities it has to offer. But since we don't live in such an ideal world ... well. I'm stuck wanting a canesaberstaff. It'd be nice if - or when - I go and I detail exactly what I want to the employees, they were willing to reach out to Saberforge or even VFSabers and discuss with them about my particular design.

That’s pretty cool that that’s available. Yeah a trip to the Mouse House can really add up and not something that can really be done for a casual purchase. Totally get it. It’s cool that there are so many options for getting lightsabers nowadays. When I was a kid all I had was a yellow plastic Kenner lightsaber. I still loved it, though.

Hi! I have a couple questions, How much is savi’s workshop? My brother went and he said it was $500 (i think he’s lying but idk), and can you buy other lightsaber colors and are there anymore color options?

It’s $219 per person the last time I checked. That’s what it was when we went in March. You can choose from the crystal colors you see in the video, but there are a few other colors you can get at Doc Ondar’s shop there at galaxy’s edge. And you can open the lightsaber up and change out the crystal of you want. Pretty cool. I had green in mine originally but have since changed it to yellow.

You can’t buy one of these custom sabers from Disney, but there are some people who sell them on eBay and Amazon, but for more money. For about the same price you can buy one of the legacy lightsabers that are replicas of character sabers and are really good quality too.

It is just an RFID chip reading it for the color if you wanted to you could get an RFID read/writer off Amazon for like 20 bucks and make any color you want there are some sites/videos out there that walkthrough the process it’s pretty cool and surprisingly easy.

They are pretty big. Personally I like the size and weight, but I have big hands. If you’re wanting to do stunts with them or cosplay, they can be kind of unwieldy. I mostly display mine.

There wasn’t anyone signing during the experience and there was a lot of spoken word and some played audio voice. I think hearing impaired individuals would need to bring in an interpreter to get the full experience. I don’t know if Disney provides those services at all.

No worries, I get it. But Jose is right, it is an experience. And actually if you go to Doc Ondar’s and buy a saber, most of them cost the same. They are replicas of character sabers, so that’s a bit different, but the Savi’s lightsabers have the kyber crystals that you can change out and change the color and sound. Pretty nice. Probably just depends on what you’re after

Totally get it! Yes, each person doing the experience can have an additional person in there with them, no worries. It’s great fun to do and also watch, and the other person doesn’t have to pay. Enjoy!

No, they are actually metal. I’m surprised how solid they are. The inner chassis has some plastic parts, and of course the blades are plastic, but the outer components are metal. Very nice.
