I love the design of the finished piece. Would you consider doing a good flat variant? You could hinge the rear legs where they join at he top and, for the seat you could have it sliding into a close ended mortise from the front, with a matching mortise on the inside of the front legs. It would allow you to slide the seat in for storage.

@@shaunboydmadethis quick question: how did you achieve the slight bow on the top section of the back of the seat? I was thinking it was probably done at the bandsaw, but I don't know how you then mitered that bow shape to match the angle of the legs... I thought that was a really nice touch.
@shaunboydmadethis
@shaunboydmadethis 5 жыл бұрын
@@BluesmaNeedham Yeah, so the curves on the backrest are done on the bandsaw. The bevel can be cut before cutting the curve, but that will result in a straight line across the backrest at the bottom of the bevel and the curve on top, which looks totally fine. But in order to get the bevel to match the top curve and the leg angle, I cut the curve first, then cut the bevel following the curve on the table saw in many passes. It is kind of a tricky thing to do, and should only be done if you are very confident using a table saw. Hope that helps!

Shaun, amazing work as always! Have you ever tried using a spokeshave for saddling? I guess you’d really need a travisher which is essentially the same thing. Also, do you ever have to change out your templates? I find, maybe I’m just getting lazy, I have to mark my templates because I’ll end up shaving a few thousandths off here and there and messing up my dimensions, especially on many repeated parts. Can’t wait for your next video, cheers.
@shaunboydmadethis
@shaunboydmadethis 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Really appreciate it! I always tell myself that one of these days I am going to get more proficient with hand tools. And yeah, my templates can get a little worn out. For the most part I can make them last for awhile, but every now and then I will make a new version when things get a little off.

very nice chair Shaun. good tip also. FYI, you seem like the type of woodworker that uses your oscillating sander a lot. I just did a video on mounting a 6" diameter drum on my Ridgid oscillating sander easy to make too. a big drum sander really helps with wood sculpting and hog off wood. No dust collection yet but maybe you can help me figure out a good dust collection for this monster. anyway, enjoy your channel :>)

So I love your work Shaun but here’s the thing... I’m broke. So to pay 25 to 80 dollars for your plans is just not feasible. I’m sure they are worth every penny... I just don’t have those pennies. So could you possibly direct me to where I can get my hands on some FREE plans of similar quality? I hope I’m not out of line, just really desperate for some help here. I can’t afford to buy would and make expensive mistakes.

I appreciate the kind words and I understand your predicament as I still operate on a shoestring budget. I know there are a few KZbin woodworkers (Johnny Brooke and April Wilkerson are two I know off the top of my head) that offer some free plans for certain things that might help you get started. Good luck with your woodworking!

Yeah, I have been seeing arbortech stuff all over social media, but never used any of them. Might have to do a little comparison test.

good video, but in the future can you lower the volume of the music so it is much closer if not the same as the vocals in your video thanks :-)

Dump the Ulster flag Shaun it can upset a lot of nationalist in the north of Ireland or get the right one. A yellow background with a red hand which is the true Ulster flag and has been for hundreds of years
