Thought I’d take a look back at this Andy as not watched before. At the moment I have integrated my moving bed inside my 4 barrel multi bay chamber. Think over the winter I may copy this and bring it outside after the multi bay. Will give me some nice extra filtration as I can change the existing moving bed to a static mechanical filter 👍

Hi mate, another good video. That's a good moving bed you've got there. I hope you don't mind, but I did notice when you fitted your tank connector, you put it in the hole and then on the inside added the rubber washer and nut. If you put the rubber washer on the tank connector first, then put it into the hole, it won't leak. The way you have it, water could get under the washer through the thread and cause a leak mate. Hope this helps. take care mate, Terry.

Hi Danny when I built mine I used 1.5 inch pipe as it had a slow flow of about 1500lph it may take more but you can use a larger diameter pipe or two return pipes in the build to increase the flow rate. But as its biological and not mechanical filtration i believe it benefits from a slower flow. Andy

So I have it prity much finished now but ran into a issue that you may be able to advise me on! So I have purchased a 8mm airline and a large airstone which connects fine however I do want a little t piece and a elbow so purchased a 8mm elbow as a test and it’s too small! Should I be using 10mm fittings to suit the 8mm airline? Can’t find much info on the web
@DerbyKoi3 жыл бұрын
Hi mate the 8mm will be the inside diameter of the airline so you will need to measure the outside diameter and get the connections to fit that size. If that makes sense it will more than likely be 10mm but its best to check first. Let me know if you get it sorted or if i can help Andy👍

Hi...I have 4 or 5 of these barrels and am looking at making a moving bed filter. My main filter is bottom drain to Vortex, into my 1st Eazypod, then into my 2nd Easypod then out and pumped through a 110 Watt Uv and return to the pond......So what I would like to know is, would this work off the skimmer, as I have the skimmer being pumped through an Oase 11000 pressure filter then returned to the pond...I'm thinking of making one of these and diverting the return from this to the pond via a SS blade...Your thoughts and advice would be appreciated...Thank you....Ian
@DerbyKoi2 жыл бұрын
Hi Ian yes it would work my concern would be the water flow rate through the barrel if its to high the pipe may not cope with it and the barrel will over flow. i would consider splitting the flow from your pressure filter and having a slower flow into the barrel so it won't overflow and giving it more dwell time in media. I hope that make sense Andy 👍

@DerbyKoi Жыл бұрын
I use 1.5 in but mine doesn't go into the pod it goes into the returns pipe (trickle feed). I think you will need a much bigger size to prevent the pod from overflowing. You need to make sure what ever flow goes into the pod can empty to the moving bed and then empty back to the pond or either the pod or bed will overflow. Hope that makes sense

What does the trickle in system do?
@DerbyKoi3 ай бұрын
Instead of doing water changes all in one go, you trickle in the tap water over a period of time. This has the benefits of replacing the minerals more evenly, less chance of changing water parameters and saves time. You will also need an overflow system on the pond for the water to escape
@bryanporter717 Жыл бұрын
Hi I have a similar system but mine is filled with filter matt in 1and 2 and media in 3 . I only run them for about 4hrs a day think I should run it more what is your thoughts?

Looks great! Does that a Jebao/Jecod PA45 put out enough to clean the EazyPod? I'm looking for a pump solution myself... one to run a 60 litre mixed bed (with eventual 25l ish of media) and able to switch to clean my pod... and a second pump to run my 3" jbr drain on a timer.
@DerbyKoi3 жыл бұрын
Hi john, the 45L pump does bubble the pod, and run the moving bed, but I found out that it leaves muck in the bottom of the pod, I've switched to a 70L pump just for cleaning the pod, but from the comments I've had it seems even that wont clean the pod properly, I think there is a design flaw , I've read that some are using 120L air pumps and its still not cleaning the pod without using a brush ☹. Im thinking of a way to make alterations to the pod to make the dam thing clean properly.
@johnclipperton37743 жыл бұрын
@@DerbyKoi thanks! Ok i may just go for a PA80 then as planned to run my bed and clean the pod. May also build one of those DIY protein skimmers to go in the pod. Then add a smaller second pump to run my drain and maybe to boost the 80 if needed...

Where in the system does this go?. After your main filtering or before?. For example could i put one in after the uv but before entering my filter system?. Also what do you mean by PP?. What is it?. Thanks.
@DerbyKoi3 жыл бұрын
Mine is after the main filtration so the water entering is reasonably clean, PP is an abbreviation for potassium permanganate, which is used for certain treatments, sterilising equipment and etching new plastic media to aid the start of biological development
@kris3081003 жыл бұрын
@@DerbyKoi many thanks. So this is biolgical filtration and no point installing before the filter system?
@DerbyKoi3 жыл бұрын
Yes kris, it's designed for biological filtration, the idea is. When the media is moving and bumping into each other the old and dying beneficial bacteria gets knocked off leaving room for more healthier bacteria to colonize, also increased oxygen and the movement means is virtually self cleaning 👍

Hi Rob, the only video I have with the full build is the moving bed. The other diy filter is my bakki river, there are plenty of videos showing how it works but not a build video. Both my diy builds are mainly biological filtration. If you're looking to build a diy mechanical filter, my advice is to search for 3 barrel filter system on wrighty KZbin channel who shows you the build. Hope that helps 👍
@oliverskinner89622 жыл бұрын
On a 2000 liter pond you could get away with a 2 barrel system and instead of the first barrel use an AquaForte compact sieve (pump fed) £200 but money well spent feeding into a middle barrel of K+ don't use micro to catch fines getting through the sieve and Hel-x13 in the last barrel with Air stone and 30-45 LPM of Air depending on the size of barrel you go for. Blanket weed and K1 types of media don't mix so the sieve instead of a first barrel is an excellent idea and lots of people put that sieve In front of kockney koi multi bay filters and eazypod's fitted above dropping in.

Hi mate, after pp cleaning I mixed in hydrogen peroxide approx 3% keep adding until it turns brown ish which neutralizes the pp and can then be safely disposed down a sewage drain,. Throughly wash the media and your good to go 👍

May I ask what flow you're putting through it please? I'm about to order the parts to build my own but, undecided about which pipe diameter to go for.
@DerbyKoi3 жыл бұрын
Hi Andy my flow rate isn't that high as it is coming from my bakki river probably between 1000-15000lph using 1 1/2" pipe but it could take more. I hope that helps Andy.
@andynuttall95943 жыл бұрын
@@DerbyKoi Thanks for your reply. I was looking at putting around 8000lph through with a view to extending it to a 3 barrel system. Would 1 1/2" cope or should I go 2" to be on the safe side?
@DerbyKoi3 жыл бұрын
Hi andy, I'm not sure of flow rates to pipe diameters, it also depends on whether the system is pressurized and pipe length, I think there are online calc, what I can say is my easypod runs easily 6000L through 2" pipe so I'd probably recommend 2" at least, sorry I cant be more precise 👍

@@DerbyKoi Can you tell me the concentration of PP you used to prepare the new media and how long you soak it? Also do you run your air to circulate the balls while soaking? Thanks so much for this video - I'm acquiring the parts to make mine now - 8^)
@DerbyKoi5 ай бұрын
Hi mate, if it's just for sterilizing the media, there's no persific amount. Put enough in so it turns a dark purple and aerate for 24hrs if the water does start to turn brown, just add more pp and remember to neutralise with hydrogen peroxide before adding to the filter.

PP is an abbreviation for potassium permanganate, it's used for certain pond treatments but be advised it is very dangerous if instructions are not followed, it is also used to sterilise old media, it also has the advantage of etching some new media so helps to mature quicker.
