If you have a Focus ST I highly recommend the steeda clutch spring for it as well.

Opinionated Loser I agree! I have it in mine. Much better in my opinion.

Would it be the same spring as in the video? I also have an ST and learned manual on it and I feel like it kicks back too but I've never driven any other manual to compare it to. TIA!
@skimshady4 жыл бұрын
Ivan Aguilar it’s not the same as in the video, it’s thinner and longer and it’s a pain in the ass to install. It’s worth it though as it makes downshifts easier and shifts smoother. I learned manual in the ST as well.
@MW2Master9184 жыл бұрын
Ivan Aguilar no it’s alittle bit smaller and skinnier but it’s in the same area and pretty similar install, it’s quick and easy and really makes a difference

Actually, the pressure plate is just one component of the clutch. It's the steel plate that presses directly on the disc. The diaphragm spring (the black metal "fingers" that the release bearing presses on) actually determines how much pedal force you feel in the car (sans spring). That as well as the hydraulic system. If you have old hydraulic fluid in the lines, changing the fluid may improve clutch feel as you are directly compressing that fluid to press on the release bearing, which then in turn presses on the diaphragm spring. The amount of torque that the clutch can hold is a direct function of the coefficient of friction of the disc material (most stock clutches in passenger vehicles are an organic material) as well as the force applied to the pressure plate from the diaphragm spring. Dual disc clutches actually use what's called an intermediate plate (the steel plate that goes between the separate discs). When you add clutch discs, the amount of friction surfaces doubles, so every clutch disc is 2x torque capability given the same force applied by the spring onto the pressure plate.

Clutch assist springs are common, and most of them are there due to helping the rase of use with the pedal, due to clutches having higher clamp loads, and helping with regulating hill start assist vehicles.

Unrelated to any of the platforms you've worked on, but your videos inspired me to do brake pads today! The PO of my Miata had a Wilwood Forged Dynalite kit put on at some point, and for the longest time (probably longer than was safe) I was afraid of trying to change the pads because I didn't want to break such an expensive piece on the car. Just wanted to pause the vid and say thanks :)

Stalled my 2020 pp1 leaving the car wash the other day. I felt like a total noob lol. I just bought the car 3 days ago and haven't driven it much plus I'm used to clutching older pickups, semi's, tractors etc. I'm going to order this spring plus a mgw shifter with a raseseng knob.

The clutch assist spring reduces the required pedal pressure . Probably at the expense of the pedal feel.

It’s all psychological. I changed for the steeda spring and thought wow it’s so linear and wow it’s really smooth etc etc …. Anyways after a year I put the stock one back in and couldn’t believe how much better it felt. Just shows these Ford engineers do these things for a reason. The worst part with the steeda spring is when your holding the clutch in at traffic. My left leg would start to shake it makes it so stiff.

I relate to this video as the freaking Vice grips kept sliding off and it’s in such a awkward angle that it’s hard to do. It’s simple but hard at the same time

I need to replace my. It popped off the other day but I noticed that the stick part whatever its called that is attached to the clutch is gone! I had never looked under there until the day the spring popped off. Don’t know if it broke the same day, or if it was just kinda hanging by a hair to a tiny peace on the clutch pedal itself. I have no Idea. Anyway, since that stick looking part that sticks out of the pedal is gone, is the a replacement for that? Or do I need to replace the whole freakin clutch pedal?

I finally installed this today after driving for 20K miles on the stock one and always heard it is an improvement. Only taken a few drives since so still not sure if it actually is or not since I am so used to the stock spring. I did notice the dead spot you mentioned at 7:46 and I am wondering if this will cause damage to anything long term? Is the clutch not fully releasing or is it an actual dead spot where nothing is happening?
@eldontsoi Жыл бұрын
i have the same issue about the dead spot. do you have any updates regarding it?

Does anyone know if all mustangs have a ton of play when the clutch pedal is released I’ve swapped out both cylinders after one was going bad and I figured it was due to that but it’s still the same shit. I was wondering if this spring would help fully extend the pedal it’s starting to get annoying
