Wonderful work and we were touched your daughter enjoyed our video. Now get that computer in the wishdosher!

You are dad goals. The fact that she enjoyed building it herself, customized it with the pink color, and uses it all the time put a smile on my face. My dad bought me a VIC-20 as my first computer and I was thrilled; had I been a kid today and gotten something like this I would have absolutely lost my shit.

We took the computer to South East Linux Fest this year and it was a big hit. She loves using it for the various bits of enjoyment. It is going to get a major upgrade in the very near future to make it even more enjoyable. I just hope I can find the time to turn it into a video to share.

Man, a Raspberry Pi in the Vic-20 would have been a wonder computer even long before the internet, more powerful than anything on the market in the size of a credit card, and it's not even the fastest thing among SBCs

This is really cool! I cannot understate how special it is that your daughter wanted to actually build something. That is incredible!

What a fun father and daughter project! I enjoyed seeing her put some work into it as well. It looks like a really good machine for her to use right now.

I really do like it. I am working on making some upgrades to the computer end of it. I have removed the Pi4 and am designing a cradle to put a Framework mainboard with an intel 11th gen CPU. This will be pretty awesome when I'm done.

190 hours for the successful print? Wow! I knew 3D printing was time consuming but that’s amazing. It didn’t matter one bit though. The memory of making this together is worth every bit of time, effort, and money spent. Bravo!

Thankfully I didn't HAVE to babysit the 3D Printer. The direct drive extruder made the whole process a lot more consistent. I do need to do some kind of battery backup it because it is not like I experienced only ONE power disruption while printing. I do agree that the memories of a fruitful project is going to be something of a kind of anchor point in both of our memories.

I also printed a Callisto II. Mine is the one printed in Pink Silk PLA. This was a great project I built for my Niece. I powered it with a Raspberry PI 3 and it is currently running Retropie. Now that Raspberry Pi availability is making a comeback, I'll be upgrading hers, and making a couple more. I will also be including some of your mods. This is a great project, if anyone is looking for a cool build this one is hard to beat!

I am glad that you find value in my modifications. I am working on a major modification for this one but it is going to take some time to complete it. I think this is the single best 3D printed project I have ever done.

A nice gift for somebody. The Pi can run DOS, so a good DOS gaming setup would be fun.

This is gonna be a legendary cyberdeck once she’s old enough to trick it out herself. The fact you just fabricated it from home makes it like the legendary swords from epics of the past forged by fathers for their children. Who knows? Maybe that little machine is the start of something world changing.

That's a nice keyboard. And I love the style since I used to work on a televideo 920C and several other terminals like that. I miss the rounded CRT. It needs some kind of glass in front of it to get those nice rounded screen. Only 2 of my terminals had flat screens (still crt). The backside usually is riddled with D25 connectors, so seeing USB there is nice.

The question I will need to answer is some sort of UPS system that will conveniently fit inside of the case. I think I have a solution using a USB C style backup battery. I will see if I can make it happen!

It's nice to see a youngun' working with their old man to make things. Next thing is to put a Steam Deck inside.
@CubicleNate
@CubicleNate Жыл бұрын
I think it is critical that kids learn from their parents. A SteamDeck might be on the table as you can buy the main board alone but I don't know enough about it to be certain that would be a good idea yet... but not a BAD idea...

Just wondering, are the keyboard recommendations strict, or will most 60-64 keys be similar? 😅
