One small suggestion, in videos like this, show what you typed into the store's (amazon's) searchbar, so the viewer has a better idea how the suggestions vary. So e.g. if you typed in pc Power supply, Modular PC Power Supply or 650W power supply. Because for me its not clear if the bigger power supply is just because the system doesn't need as much power and it's just the go to wattage for Amazon or if you got suggested a bigger one then you searched for. Same thing for the higher end motherboard.
@grigoriskapr

@@tim_mueller nice proposal. I think I remember in the previous one they said they put in as small a search query as logical + compatible (eg "CPU", "GPU", "AM5 motherboard") although I haven't gone back to see it plus I don't know if it would be quite so clear on the PSU wattage difference that you bring up.

My guess is that the Crucial SSD is the 'Overall Pick' because it's often used in storage solutions where multiple drives are added. This makes it more likely to be sold in larger quantities per order compared to M.2 drives, which are usually bought one at a time for specific builds.

Good point. I agree that most people in this situation will buy a very nice Samsung SSD for 1TB-2TB and fill the rest with these cheaper Crucial ones for additional storage.

There's nothing wrong with sourcing some (or all?) parts from them. Though IMO maingear (seems to?) do a good job with builds, it's all off the shelf parts. Hell I got a email saying they tested intels latest attempt to remove the oven and glave DLC from my CPU and that the new microcode is good. They did a stress test and found the MOBO I picked sucked and gave a discount. Not chilling at all! the case itself is meh (kind of jank to be honest). lol well I mean, just for sourcing parts: they beat out neweg, and who ever is left in the custom PC parts space.

I'm really looking forward to where this is going, and in the end good media coverage is what will lead to people making better choices than what Amazon recommends them. This video is why spending even just 15 minutes on the Tom's Hardware GPU Benchmarks Hierarchy page is worth it when doing a cursory search for a new graphics card. The RTX 3060 12GB was a great choice 2 or 3 years ago when it came out based on performance and VRAM amount, but really as of about a year ago, there are better options on the market depending on price and performance preferences if one looks a little bit.

@@Jalex0021 You're comment kind of misses my point and the point proven in the video. In the video a RX 7700 XT with 12GB VRAM is beating a RTX 3060 with 12GB VRAM. It's good to have enough VRAM to act as a frame buffer and HD texture storage, but more VRAM won't make up for a GPU that's too low end to utilize all the VRAM effectively. The reason I said it was a great choice back in 2021/2022 was because it was the one of the few times Nvidia didn't short change a SKU in the VRAM department.

A budget of 1200-1300 sounds very crazy to me, especially since that will barely get you a mid-range gaming PC nowadays compared to how things were not too long ago. Not even 10 years ago for that kind of money I could get a current gen HEDT and dual graphics cards in the nvidia xx70 tier. On my current build I spent 250 on mobo(X99)+cpu(14core)+ram(64GB DDR4)+gpu(quadro 8GB vram), just to give an idea on how ridiculous spending over 1000 sounds to me. Not even considering the fact that I would lose features and functionality making it more of a downgrade despite higher cpu performance and ram clocks.

Well something in "defense" of the amazon picks. I think that these encompass more than just "wanting to build a new PC"? Of course SATA SSDs or even a one generation (good new market value) will be more popular than the newest/most up-to-date components. These are more typical upgrade parts&paths for existing older machines. Just due to comparability reasons or possible "over-budgeting" in terms of performance, meaning bottle necking. But please correct me if I am wrong here in my analysis! :)

It's partly AMDs fault that chips go missing at amazon, mainly because it's SUPER easy to slide the plastic tray out of the older Zen1/Zen2 boxes especially on an item that's made the rounds through returns, resell, redistribution. So between employees carelessly throwing the box around and sticky fingers, we'd often get a lot of empty CPU box returns.
