tho to be fair, even if the entire shell is made from Titanium, it wouldn't stand against bullets (even modern AP rifle rounds), and we don't have (to my knowledge) the ability to AFORDIBLY make Titanium lased with diamonds, which is where a decent amount of the "bullet proof" comes from, and if it were, by the time he get the full rig built (body and all) its still gona weigh a decent amount that you wouldn't want to lug it around the battle field.

Genuinely massively impressed that you've come this far with the project, unbelievable stuff. I don't want to potentially take away any progress you've mdae with the helmet so far, but regarding your decision to print the entire shell as a unibody, have you not thought about dividing it up into interlocking seperate plates that mount to the frame? I ask this because if the helmet is ultimately going to be designed with a level of ballistic protection, if the helmet is struck with a projectile and deforms, the entire shell has to be remade. Would it not make more sense to be able to replace localised damaged sections of armour plate? For example the mandible, mouth piece housing the speakers, the cranial dome, and the back of the helmet that contours around to the helmet brim could be five different pieces. This would also make internal repairs easier if you needed access to a specific area of the helmets internal systems. Aside from having to redesign the shell and maybe aspects of the frame, you would have to take into account the likelihood of the frame itself deforming which would be disastrous. Moving on from that, I am fully onboard with the idea of redesigning the mouthpiece for the external loudspeaker, I think it fits really well into what you're trying to do, which is build as close as possible to lore accurate but with todays technology. Have you thought about making the speaker vents water resistant? Maybe use the kind of fine mesh/membrane that modern water resistant smart phones use in their speaker assemblies? I hope this comment finds you and that the feedback was atleast interesting if not useful. Keep up the good work mate. Edit: Another thought, the filters from the breathing system, will there be some kind of way to change the filters without removing the helmet and maintaining the internal environment like modern CBRN equipment allows?

it seems the man isnt just a hobbyist. im pretty sure this is conceptually the first steps to a REAL functional Armored UNSC MJOLNIR suit. give a armored helmet enough weak points and its not armored at all.
@sandmanlxv2 жыл бұрын
@@jacklloyd4376 I completely understand that, I'm not saying divide it up into lots of pieces, I'm taking inspiration from our own modern combat helmet systems in terms of modularity, but altering its purpose from being modularity for the sake of operational requirements (think of attachable mandibles etc), into modularity for the sake of ease of access and repair, whilst still maintaining integrity of major components. Dome, Mandible, Mouth Piece, Visor, Brim. All large, structurally sound pieces of armour with the potential to be designed with overlapping fields of protection to mitigate any "weak points" whilst still being removable for replacement and repair. Seeing that this isn't a cosplay project, but is intended as a functional suit of powered armour, is the exact reason why I'm trying to give potentially useful feedback. To me it just wouldn't make sense to have the entire helmet be a single unibody despite whatever potential protective advantage it might give, but then again I'm not a materials scientist.

I was looking at doing a similar project, but with an original helmet design. My idea for the activation of the headlights was to take the pressure switch from a rifle light and built it into the left side of the helmet, just over the ear. Left side means I could still hold a weapon with my right, and the pressure switch would allow for both quick flashes for moving through the dark, or sustained on by pressing the adjacent button. Your project is amazing. Subscribed, and notifications are on. Can't wait for more updates.

Interesting and well done on progress. I use a SGE 400/3BB with a C420 PAPR system that attaches to molle on a full carapace plate carrier (was expensive but worth it for the ultra light weight NIJ-IV+ rifle plates, kevlar NIJ-IIIA soft plate backers and trauma plates that distribute kinetic energy all for less than 3/4" or 18mm-ish width); check out the full face PAPR and respirator systems that have wireless comm systems I think from SGE, Mestel or Drager/Draeger...I think like the 2000 or 7000 series or something, Might be useful for inspiration, and I think there's more than a few that have integrated AR for visuals AND also have thermal/FLIR integrated as well. There's much you can do to miniaturize components (especially the air filtration with regards to a closed system for CBRN) and also to orient all the separate systems into a self-contained unit with larger power unit if you wish to separate it from a body worn computing (for the AR integration; especially if you plan to run a proprietary OS) and power unit(s). Though, for a individual's project, ie. as an uninitiated that's not a familiar like a product/component conceptualizer and/or designer, engineer or some other professional in the def [defcon] mfg industry, this is massively impressive. Looking forward to seeing further progress.

This looks ABSOLUTELY incredible, and a remarkable work of engineering, but if I may provide one suggestion, if this suggestion is even possible, as I don't know if it is, and that would be having the Wearers Eyes and point of view from Inside the Helmet being a bit higher up towards the top of the Helmet, as it looks like the eye-point is a bit low, making the Helmet seem like it's riding too high above the Wearers head, like a Bicycle helmet, almost. Again, I don't know if this is possible due to the placement of the internal structural elements, but if changeable, would make this helmet go from near Perfection to being an absolute masterpiece. Anyway, great work so far, as this is leaps and bounds above most, if not all Spartan Helmets I've seen yet. Bravo 🙌👋👏

How about some light environment sensors to activate the led lights automatically or some to detect face expressions or gestures and some voice control features in order to have redundant ways to control the helmet and the suit. I genuinely believe that the whole suit should do the most things possible automatically to let the user focus on other tasks without taking out the user personalization so the user can set the proper profile depending on the scenario. For example set different temperature settings for the different armor sections, the light environment where the lantern and/or the night vision might be useful, the speed and/or temperature the air filtration system has to blow (maybe an atmospheric pressure sensor to know when and how much air take in or out depending on the user's breathing, you could make the amor hold it's breath when you do and enter a sneaky profile), etc. If you are at a combat scenario the noise you make or the extra visibility that you have might no be that important, but if you are at a infiltration mission the less you want is the be spotted because you turned on your lantern accidentally or to be heard because of you air filtration system made some noise or your speaker system/radio comms were on so everyone noted how good and round you considered the lore accuracy's booty of a teammate is. This are real life Spartan combat threads you could encounter on the battlefield. So the best process is no process the best pars is no part and a unibody piece of titanium to make the external she'll of the helmet is a bad idea for repairs, maintenance, future development and piece replacement. For the internal structure might be good idea though, that's why cars an military vehicles make the cabin as rigid as possible and the outer shell that is for armor is divided in sections that can be deformed, destroyed or damaged and replaced to keep the danger out and the safety in the inside.

I'd recommend a drinking tube system much like one found on an existing nato gas mask so you can still drink without removal of the helmet. If weight of the helmet is an issue, you could add a track to the bottom much like a turret on a guntruck attached to an arm mounted to the torso with a hinge so as not to inhibit looking up or down. It'd be a simple passive solution to decrease neck and head strain. Cameramen use similar devices.

That way the speaker assembly can be easily removed for servicing and you can more easily maintain the helmet’s integrity. And you can swap it out for the mouth piece for different mods if desired. One can also do the same thing for the lights (the number of LED’s I’ve blown over the years…😢)

Are you going to make a data crystal chip and slot in the helmet? If you need to modify something like the HUD, having something that you can simply take out and update might be useful. I'm thinking either a microSD card, a USB flash stick, or use existing 3D models of the Halo chip to create a shell in which you can fit the internal components of a flash drive (connecting to the suit via USB) or a SSD (connecting via SATA port), depending on how much data storage you need (if you decide to record video, for example). Personally I'd go with option 2 (for simplicity and following the project design of function over form) or option 3 (for appearances). Because while a microSD would take up less space, it would also be too easily dropped and lost in the heat of battle, and trying to fit such a small object into a hole in the back of your helmet while you are wearing it would be next to impossible. There's also portable SSDs with docks that you might be able to reuse.

You are such a legend mate, and this is looking amazing. I envy your skills and dedication. If a big government contractor offered you a job on a full Mjolnir suit, would you take it?

First time I've seen this project, your work is impressive so far. Wouldn't a throat mic be a better solution to get away from localised feedback? That would logically be isolated from anything on the external frame of the helmet so *should* be shielded from feeding back like that. I know you can get motorola models for radios for combat gear in the £30-40 range (was looking at airsoft shops) That way it also wouldn't be vulnerable to moisture or whatever physical fouling you'd get from floating around the mouth and *also* wouldn't get any noise from the internal airflow system? It would also be shielded from external noise, or any system you add to hear external noise better. Also, depending on the wattage of those LEDs, you might want to make sure you've got heatsinks (possibly integrated into the airflow exhaust? Depends on the relative temps). If not for the integrated frame I'd suggest making the nose of the visor independent anyway, so you can build stuff in there - exterior mics, environmental sensors if you have the scope to process the data - pressure, temp etc, and space for batteries in stabilised storage (impact protected because LiPos are dangerous if damaged). For additional controls you could take a bit from starship troopers and have switches you can operate with your mouth - not just buttons. I strongly advise looking into sweat wicking fabrics and skinning any internal volume padding in that stuff to avoid the humidity going crazy. You'll want to make sure things are well padded to avoid the outer shell going bong after machining. Aside from the hololens strapping, have you planned how to secure the helmet from wobbling? And anything to help with atmospheric isolation? LIke a wetsuit collar to something with inflatable bladders to create a soft-seal (you have to be SUPER careful with that, mind you, to avoid choking yourself out)

You should make the body bulletproof if you are doing that! Love your work

this is absolutely incredible! eventually we should look into AR glasses [something cheaper than a hololens] or just a whole "budget" build for the average person to buy or try to build on their own. still though amazing job! keep it going you're doing great!
