Thank you for sharing this. It's beautiful. I'd also like to thank you for your words toward the end of the video. I'm very much a novice at dioramas and have so far to go, but have already come so far. I do these for the pleasure of it. The challenge. It isn't whether or not we're good at it. It's about enjoying the journey of it and exploring our own creativity on the way. It's amazing what you start to notice in the world when you start making it in miniature. :)

Haha I completely agree. That turned out amazing!!! I especially like how you have used a mixture of premium and foraged materials for the plant life and your ingenuity for re purposing the jewellery, mold and ornaments. As soon as my backs better and I can walk again I'm taking the grandkids foraging. As a side note, Im interested in the ancient builders too, How they built enormous buildings so precisely makes the mind boggle. Just moving those huge boulders is an amazing achievement let alone carving them to fit so precisely. It's one mystery I would love to learn the truth about. Thanks for sharing this with us, 👍

I wish you well with your recovery and yes, it seems our interests follow similar paths. I love a good documentary and am fascinated with not only how ancient civilizations managed such amazing feats but also how little we actually know about human history. And sure once you get into the realms of speculation, things can get a little bit wild, some I disregard pretty quickly but how there are also irrefutable 'coincidences' that just don't make any sense. The power of imaginations! yes you work so much like I do on my dioramas mate! it's amazing the similarities. I am not doing them just now as life changes when my wife died after caregiving her, but it is wonderful to watch you work as i did, whatever needed to accomplish the miniatures. One tip I cast all my plaster rock faces using warmed plasticine clay (school clay) as it is cheap but gives wonderful detail when pressed into the face of a miniature looking real rock. It is also very easy to remove faces from the molds and a little of it goes a long ways! (reusable) You just need to keep it in a plastic bag with a damp cloth to keep it pliable. (I live in a desert Arizona) Thank you for the graet video. I am doing my temples now in virtual computer 3D until I can once again setup shop.

This and the previous version look amazing! Do you have to do anything to treat the natural branches to preserve them / keep from rotting or does the primer/paint take care of that?

I am building a large scale diorama of one of the Devil's Island prison buildings after it was closed and the jungle began to reclaim it like in the movie- " Papillion" when they roll the credits at the end of the movie. I made the structure out of 1/2" thick plywood and plan to plaster the walls with stucco base and found some corrugated aluminum sheet that looks like the scaled version of the tin roofing on the building. I also have tempered wire that replicates the prison bars. I also have several live bonsai trees that look similar to the jungle trees in the movie also live vines to plant in the center of the structure.

As I work my way through your videos once again you have delighted me with a fantastic journey of discovery and technique that everyone can learn from. Tipping hat once again for a brilliant job. I knew you had a real brain when you talked about dusting everything with a touch of green. That’s a very advanced idea that stems back to lighting which is something I know a lot about. Great job. Just great. And on that subject of perfection. Let me quote one of my very favorite people from a favorite movie. “Perfection is a road. Not a destination.” Best wishes once again. 👍🖖🏼

Never a truer word said... and thank you for your feedback. Everything visual is light, or lack of. And colour is emotions. You have a background in lighting? Jo, it's comments such as yours that make me a smile. I know how confusing it can be at the beginning with so many processes and everyone doing things differently, it can be hard to know where to start. The best tip I can give is get a few basic tools and materials and try something simple. Your first attempt will lead to many more questions but it is in 'trying' that you will learn the most. I'm always happy to answer any questions if you get stuck. Best of luck!!

Cool video. Really interesting. You now, last year I had in mind this idea about creating a diorama. Sci-fi based, about Alien universe. The idea was that of a crash landed Conestoga-class starship on a jungle planet. So as first step I've tried to make a model of the ship, but I'm new of these things and I didn't know a lot of stuff. For example I didn't know how to paint it, also, I figured it out that I made it wrong. I should learn more and then try again. So, thanks for your videos. I really appreciate. 👍 Greetings from Italy.
@creativecuts7803

Sounds like an amazing idea. Sometimes the idea itself is pretty big, so like you have realised you need to break it into smaller steps. Get the building right. Do some research about how you would like to paint it. I have a video - in fact my first ever video on the channel which deals with a really simple but effective paint job for a crashed spaceship. Maybe that will help a bit. And always happy to help if you have questions. Good luck 👍

Looks great. Quick tip for painting foam if you're using rattle can spray paint, if you hold the can a minimum of 8 inches from the foam, you shouldn't get any foam melting. Course, a lot of this depends on the quality of the paint, cheaper ones tend to melt the foam at further distances. From what I understand, the main reason the foam melts is from the accelerant used in the can to get the paint to spray out. By moving the can further away from the foam, that accelerant will usually dissipate before it eats the foam. Course, because you're spraying from further away, building up a layer or layers of paint takes longer as some of the paint won't make it to the foam, and if you're painting outside, you'll have to deal with any wind that is happening.
@creativecuts7803

I love it. Quick tip.. and proceeds with a short essay. Really helpful though. Usually I use my air brush to prime foam so I solves that problem completely. But I was waiting for a box of primer to arrive so grabbed a rattle can due to impatience. Appreciate the tip though. I love getting down to the chemical level

Hi Rodney, cheers for the kind comment, the foam is called XPS foam - it is a dense foam often used for modelling but you can similar stuff in large amounts from building suppliers sold as roofing insulation. Hi, do you have to add structure gel or pva is enough?
@creativecuts7803
@creativecuts7803 Жыл бұрын
Hey, generally I find just pva is enough. But I do keep a pot of structure gel handy if more structure is needed. Also I have different types and qualities of pva. Some really runny cheap stuff and some thicker wood glue like gorilla glue. Hope that helps a little

This is an AWESOME jungle build! I am making my first diorama ever, so I am not familiar with all of the different materials, and it is an Amazon Rainforest theme. I have been wondering how to make a realistic ground texture. This looks like the perfect ground for my diorama as well. The Diorama Presepe plants look perfect as well for my jungle theme. Two questions though, what are the colors you used in making this ground texture, and is liquitex modeling paste (acrylic based) the same as your structure gel? I have seen a different channel and that is what the guy uses to create all of his ground texture, however, with this modeling paste he does not add any PVA....maybe that is the difference? Thanks for this awesome video of an awesome diorama!

Hey man, thanks for reaching out and I'm glad you liked my build and even provided you with some inspiration. Diorama precepe are great and sell a multitude of amazing products - albeit for a premium price. For the ground texture I have found that there are many ways to achieve similar effects. The modelling paste or structure gel (different names for simliar products) are basically to provide some mass and the addition of some pva is just to help bind everything together. You can mix, sand, soil, broken leaves and sticks or whatever takes your fancy depending on the type of texture you are after. Add some acrylic paint to colour your mix. You could make separate mixes of different colours and then apply these to give even more colour variation. I found that particularly with a jungle theme that once all the plant life is added very little of the actual ground texture is visible. Check out my star wars build for more ground texture ideas as I make a really nice forest ground texture in that video. The key is layers!!! I hope that helps a little and please feel free to ask me any more questions if you have some. I will always try to help where possible ✌️👍🖖

@@creativecuts7803 First of all, thank you sooooo much for taking the time to answer my question! The answer is invaluable to me! Yes, I plan on covering most of the ground with a thick vegetation, so that makes total sense. However, there will be some small paths that do not have any vegetation and that is where I will be showing more ground. I looked at diorama presepe right after I saw this video, and I have to say, a premium price for their jungle vegetation will be well worth the money! Again, thanks for the info, and I will definitely check out your star wars build. Layers.....YES layers!!!👍

Cheers Lee. I buy my foam online from a company called Blue Foam UK. I'm based in the UK so delivery is cheap. You can also use loft insulation board but in thinner profiles I just find to order a box of 1" foam is easiest for me.

I was so fascinated by it that I almost forgot to like the video. It's an absolutely stunning work of art. About the only things that didn't quite convince me were Ganesha and the candles. The temple looks to me like no one has entered it in centuries. Then who the hell put the candles there? :D Ganesha was just a matter of taste, for me he didn't really fit into the scenery. But that's complaining on a damn high level, please don't feel compelled to justify yourself! All in all, the diorama is damn near perfect and I love it. Can you estimate how much money you spent on all the materials that went into this project?

Thank you so much for your kind comment and constructive feedback. I agree, I'm not sure about the statue either - it was an idea that I want to try - and happy I did but not sure it adds anything to the scene. I liked the idea of the candles though... who put them there and is it as abandoned as it looks? Haha me having a little fun I guess. Either way thank you for taking the time to watch

Your art is amazing but please do some research before executing something. I mean ganesha is the God of knowledge and enlightenment and the theme was dark. Also please don't simply use such religious stuff just because you like it, that's disrespectful.
