Love the Velcro alternative! For the differently colored shingles, a suggestion I have is to use soft pastel, or charcoal, rub the stick on a piece of paper to create loose powder. Then get a dry paint brush and dip into the loose powder, and brush it onto the shingles until the desired color is achieved. Then, spray it with a matte sealant like from Krylon brand. This will help maintain the texture of the sandpaper and also avoid brush strokes you would get from using paint. I’m excited to see how you manage to wire this for power. That’s going to be intense! I understand you wanting to take a break... it’s quite the project! Honestly, I think something that will help you for inside the house would be to buy kits for dollhouse furniture in the appropriate scale. The furniture often comes in perforated basswood, and you assemble the pieces and paint them however you like. I think this will help the rest of the project not to feel so intimidating, cause otherwise I know you would want to build the furniture from scratch lol

In regards to the shingles, that's a great idea! I'm going to get some of that stuff and give it a try on some sample sandpaper. I think it's pretty clear, but I'm really not all that great at the finishing touches like this so I'm definitely grateful! In regards to the wiring - I've got a plan. I don't want to reveal too much yet, but I've got a bunch of dual conductor wire I'm going to use, and if everything goes to plan, the whole thing should be 12v DC. I've already also got some of the lighting planned out! I've done a bit of research into dollhouse furniture in the past - I think that I'll probably get some of it, and slowly cycle it out with custom furniture over time. I've also had a few "gifts" along the way--for example, the small rug you see at 13:33 was woven by my mom for this model--so I already have a few pieces complete. As always, I really appreciate what you have to say! You've given me some good ideas I wouldn't have thought of on my own. Thanks for watching!

Hey Ryan, love your work!! do you think you could give a list of your materials that you used throughout?

Let me see what I can come up. To be honest though, I don't remember everything exactly. Is there one piece in particular you're wondering about, or the whole model?

Ryan Gaus i was just wondering about the whole model I would especially like to know how u did the wood panel
@RyanGausMakes4 жыл бұрын
@@camwatkins8203 Wood panel? I don't know exactly what you are referring to. Possibly the wood flooring or the plywood? Both of those were made out of wood veneer.
@camwatkins82034 жыл бұрын
Ryan Gaus ahhhh yes that’s what I was referring to. Where did you find it? If you don’t mind me asking?
@RyanGausMakes4 жыл бұрын
@@camwatkins8203 I got it on amazon! Here's a link: www.amazon.com/Maple-Veneer-Plain-Sliced-Sheet/dp/B009KN8RDK So far, I think I've had to buy 5-6 of those to make all the plywood. It's a bit pricey, but I found it to be the most realistic of all the techniques I tried. And, for the hardwood flooring, I bought some cherry veneer (from the same vendor).

Amazing project. Was wondering what the total cost was...
@RyanGausMakes4 жыл бұрын
Not as much as you might think! I haven't been keeping exact track of the cost, but it's probably all in been about a few thousand dollars.

Great question! I cast them all by hand, and it was quite an involved process. The first episodes of the series cover this process - if you have any more questions though that the video didn't answer, let me know!

Parging on the foundation
@RyanGausMakes4 жыл бұрын
Fair point, yes - I didn't do that. I'm not sure if I want to though - the house mine is modeled after didn't have a parged foundation, and I think seeing the block on the outside is almost more impressive looking.
