I used to have a little teardrop. 👍 I used the smallest mr. buddy heater with some air moving through the camper. Worked great. A nice warm down comforter makes a big difference too.
@WhatTheHellAmIThinking3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing! did you turn off the heater when you slept?
@sproesser13 жыл бұрын
@@WhatTheHellAmIThinking The extra warm down comforter made the heater only necessary on very cold nights. I'd wake up cool, and just turn the heater back on right away.

So great to finally watch all your hard work put to the test. Definitely a success, I'd say. For a mud room have you considered a teardrop tent? Basically a tent with 2 doors, one to dock up against the teardrop and another to the outside.. it could be your changing station, mudroom, bathroom, etc.. a big plastic tote to contain towels and anything completely soiled would be nice to have too. Anyways, just an idea.. take care and stay safe. Looking forward to more adventures.

Congratulations on finally getting to camp! If you're gonna stick to electric heat, seems like that little thing works fine, you sleep in an insulated box. Those diesel heaters seem messy and frankly, make me nervous. If It were my decision I would either find a heat pump or go with a Propex. They have a unit made to be mounted under/outside now. They run on propane and they have a thermostat which if the temp really drops might be nice. I like the basic set up of the galley. The sink is a nice thing to have. I predict many happy meals coming out of that galley. Regarding the mud room. As a 50+ yo person I would require a minimum of 3' x 3' like a Cabellas shower tent with some sort of grate material on the bottom. I no longer dress or undress on my side. But with that tent, you could sit in the door and put on/take off boots! Also, no rain would come in when you open the door... Again, congrats! 👍

Thank you!! it was nice to camp and fun to build. Well I have the diesel heater already so I am going to give it a try but I think I will put it in a tool box and make it portable. and yes I made a cooler on WHEEEELS, lol thanks for your positive input, Take care and Happy New Year!! Les

A few things: 1. The trailer looks great. It seems to ride well and held up just fine with all that rain. I also like the beginnings of your kitchen. 2. Is the name "Detroit" cursed? It seems whatever city/town bears that name, is bound to end up in flames and collapse eventually. 3. Hahahaha a Steve Wallis reference. Hunker down! 3. That lock system on your door would make me exceedingly nervous. I'd be afraid that I would wander out in a half-asleep daze and forget the card or keychain, and find myself locked out. Or, I might forget the keychain or card when I went inside quickly to get something, and would find myself locked in. If you're not worried about that, cool as you obviously know what you're doing. I would suggest though that you build in some kind of back up, in case you do forget to keep the card or keychain on you, or there is some sort of malfunction. Murphy's Law and all that. 5. I've often used an old chunk of carpet to set my shoes on when I would go tent camping in the rain, to try to avoid tracking dirt and mud inside. It's a crude fix, but it might help, as per your mud room question. 6. You're a cool dude, and I like this build series because you're a cool dude. Keep it coming, and I'll continue watching.

Yes I have MORE builds in mind,,, a boat,, and even another camper! a bit larger out of foam also! PS i had to change my door lock it was way to hard to latch,, it started not wanted to latch. You could not shut the door and latch it you had to push so so hard,,, I am going to cover that in a update video on the tear drop! You a cool dude as well and thanks for watching!! take care! Les

A shoe bag. A waterproof bag that hangs outside the door. Sit in the doorway, take the shoes off and put them in the bag, and they're right there in the morning. It doesn't really work with paws, though.

Cool build! Hate to leave a negative comment but . . . side note on the propane stove inside the camper: the byproduct of propane is carbon monoxide. That's pretty dangerous to use in a closed area, especially in a small area like your camper. Maybe use a catalytic heater tent safe, like a Mr Buddy and use the heat to cook on. I looking at building a fomie myselF!

I know this is a year old, but I just found these vids. Great job! I am planning to build a larger square drop version of a foamie and you have given me some good ideas. As far as the cooking goes those little burners use butane. If you have a blue flame there is little carbon monoxide. Incomplete burning that shows as yellow or orange will generate more CO. Just crack a window and you should be good to go. Are you still satisfied with your homemade entry door?
@Rick963 жыл бұрын
I have been sleeping in my foamie the last few days and 8 candles will bring the temperature from around 32 F to 55 F in under an hour. I blow them out and lose about 10 deg over night. With a window cracked. I am not sure how fair this is because it is in my insulated garage but I do get enough heat where I think this will be my solution.
@WhatTheHellAmIThinking3 жыл бұрын
I would be scared of that many candles,, also why are you sleeping in the garage? sorry had to ask.

Wow great question! If I was building for a motorcycle I would do it different. The base I made is over kill! but I wanted it over the fenders and have storage so it is taller and more wood. If I was building for a motorcycle would not have the wood base because that is half the weight. So if you had a light base and a lighter tailor the answer would be YES!

@@WhatTheHellAmIThinking we've had great fun with our Biolite stove; www.bioliteenergy.com/products/campstove-2-plus Pros -> no fuel canisters only twigs and small branches), it generates it's own electricity with the heat difference, very easy to light because of the integrated fan, recharges your phone while burning, very compact, uses far less wood than a bonfire. Cons -> a bit longer to start than naphta or gas stoves, some soot under the pots& pans, need to add wood every 10min or so, does not like wet wood.

@@WhatTheHellAmIThinking i wonder if you could use Canthaw wire as the element to build a 12v heater, legnth controls the Ohms. or a charcoal fire place out of a large can, let it vent fresh air from the outside, maybe a small blower/low watts to run heat through a heat transfer to heat it as well. wouldnt take much in such a small area.
