Don't get me wrong. I love TMR and the whole formula. But it's clear how Bryan is the face but Murphy was the soul. It really makes a difference not having him anymore. But on the other hand it's great to see the longer videos coming back, and I'm sure that as time goes by they will find a nice new formula and new dynamics that will make the show as great as it has always been.

Yeah, this isn't the modern rogue anymore. This is just "We've put out a whole month of shorts of our good stuff from ages ago, we have to figure something out for a real video!!" boring BS. No disrespect to anyone working on the show, but you all HAVE to know this isn't what people are subbed for. Nothing about this screams modern OR rogue. It feels dated and like something that the old modern rogue would laugh at or make jokes about. Please, Brian, get your head out of the business and back in the game. You are driving this whole thing into the ground by only looking at it as a business, and none of us want that.

Coming from someone who has watched the Modern Rogue for years now (and intents to keep watching)....this wasn't their strongest episode...When Brian started off the episode by admitting that even he couldn't tell the difference between the different designs I knew we were off to a bad start. Not to mention the trigger warning about not folding up the main tip seems insane. If a waiter/waitress thinks my 10 or 20 dollar boat (or maybe its a fish?) is so cute it can't be destroyed and spent then that server gets what they deserve....A 10-20 dollar, two-inch paper boat (or maybe fish?).

First, I really want to know what the Ben Franklin factoid was. Second, I also used to carry a bag of gold and silver coins, however, those are just our regular one and $2 coins up here in canada. I did mine for the exact same reason, but also because I had a lot of coins coming in at the time, as I was busking full time. The people I bought things from with those coins also really didn't appreciate having to count out all the coins.

When paying with card but tipping in cash, a lot of people will write "cash" or something similar on the tip line of the transaction receipt. I've always been a fan of the hypothetical practice of writing "tax is theft" while tipping in cash ... do either of those practices make the IRS's job easier compared to writing $0.00 or crossing the line out?
@demonicbunny3po11 ай бұрын
No. I use to manage an establishment where I had to check out people’s tips. Any credit card tips would be manually entered into the computer to make sure that the employee got what they were owed and to record what tips they got. If they wanted to track and report the cash tips, that was on them. At the end of the night, all the receipts would be bundled up and tossed into a drawer for that month’s receipts. At the end of the month, we would move to another drawer. We only needed to keep the receipts for about 3 months before we could toss them. After all, the information was on the computer and if a customer didn’t try fighting the charge in those approximately 90 days, then there would be no recourse for them to prove the tip line was incorrectly filled out.

This is fun. I used to do this too with my bills. Until I got asked by a waitress to please not do it, if I appreciated the service. Although it's cute, the waiting staff needs to unfold the bills before they can accept them, to make sure they're real and not ripped in half, stuff like that. They often need to unfold it carefully, because they don't know how it's folded and they don't want to rip it. Because that could cause an argument with the customer about who ripped it in the first place. In other words, a whole heap of extra trouble a waiter or waitress does not need on a busy day. And a Modern Rogue is nothing if not a true gentleman who does not want to inconvenience the wait staff. Please don't pay or tip this way.
@Plotatothewondercat11 ай бұрын
Therein lies the reason the video suggests giving the actual, substantial tip as an unfolded bill and just using a $1 bill for the art so there's no real pressure to undo the fold, though that may still be a flawed approach.
@Plotatothewondercat11 ай бұрын
@@durleywanger2801 Tips aren't extra money, they're the result of employers during the depression convincing lawmakers they should be allowed to make paying their employees a livable sum (or even minimum wage) the customer's choice rather than the employer's responsibility, and then preserving that system for decades under the logic of 'prices would have to go up if we paid the employees a livable wage' as if the system of tipping as a paycheck substitute isn't just an intellectually dishonest, unofficial, unenforced price hike already.
