@@TorqueCustomCycles my friend, congratulations for the clockwork precision. I love the way you used a screwdriver when tightening the pinion sprockets. I wish I was not thousands of miles away so that you could work on my ultra. Thanks so much for the extensive explanations over the work.

EXCELLENT combination!! Torque Custom Cycles did an EXCELLENT job putting it all together as well....fantastic Sandy!! Enjoy Brudda....get ready to be using a LOT more gas cuz you are gonna be hitting it wide open everywhere.... :D. Special thanks to Mike for allowing all these guys to hang around while he did all this work....takes a TON OF PATIENCE to work in that kind of environment!!!

@@TorqueCustomCycles If I lived up that way, you would be getting my business for sure man!! I absolutely LOVE that you suggest all the extra work in the heads, as thats where all the failures happen! Wish I would have done it when I did my cam for sure. (I did the woods because the 30/30 was in short supply when I did mine).

This is got to be the best bike video i have ever watched,,That bike mechanic should be paid the moon the way he does his work.Everything he did was 110% from pumping up the lifters to using lots of break in lube..The start up with a new cam can destroy that cam in minutes if it doesn’t get oil or have start up lube on it..👍👍 for the Mechanic.!!

Man, it's always a great time hanging out with the boys at the local shop!! I grew up doing this with my Dad at our local paint and body shop and a trim shop, just awesome!! I have the 30/30 in my 17 Ultra and I love it! My man in this video is a great mechanic! If I lived there I would definitely be at his shop!

I know people bug out about the plastic cuffs, but apparently there's never been a documented failure of them in harley M8. They use them on performance car engines too like the Chevy LS engines like Corvette. I think you only need to remove them and put the S&S ones on if you're doing high lift cams like a .590 or .610. Now days I just recommend people to use magnetic lifterholders(30$ from FuelMoto) and don't bother with the cuffs or removing the tappet blocks for anything other than changing the color of the blocks. Instead you can pull out the camplate and oil pump and the lifters fall out of the tappet holes, so you can replace them with new ones easily from underneath, and then hold them up with magnetic lifter holders, and put the rest of the engine back together. FuelMoto recommends that if you're going to remove them, disassemble the cam chest, then heat the engine block under the bolt for 5 minutes with a heat gun. Or get an induction heating coil and get the bolts very hot that way. I broke a cuff bolt on my Fat Boy, and it ruined my summer because I had to pay a shop to extract it.
@toolmaker5150
@toolmaker5150 Жыл бұрын
I am contemplating this now. I have the new cuffs, but not sure I want or need to install them. (Wood 22xe cam) As a machinist for 40+ years, I find it hard to believe excessive loctite in aluminum would cause a bolt that size to snap. Seems like a poor quality fastener to me. I have broken other bolts on the bike torquing to spec with a good calibrated wrench.

The Fueling vented dipstick is good... however, it is better to vent through the transmission cover using a Trask setup.
@amberbali8881
@amberbali8881 Жыл бұрын
I vent through a Trask trans cover and also installed 1/4" threaded vent nipples on my S&S Stealth back plate to vent each head to the atmoshere. Works great, no residue getting sucked via vacuum into the intake trac. Way prefer the Trask to the vented dip stick.
@richardrussell500
@richardrussell500 Жыл бұрын
@@amberbali8881 keeping that snot out of the combustion chamber will make our engines happy... everything I have watched and read, indicates that the Trask transmission vented cover is superior because it is at the highest point of the M8 case. less oil sloshing around in that area when riding the bike. the vented dipstick is lower than the transmission cover on M8s and suffers from the sloshing oil, which in turn, allows more oil than desired to vent past the internal umbrella valves. although the dipstick method works, the chances of oil migrating to the filter is much greater than the transmission setup. all in all, the idea is to allow the engine to breath and keep snot from fouling the piston tops : - )

My 2009 Superglide with a stage 1 96, runs a 240 head temp measured with an infrared temp gun next to the spark plug. No fans. My 2021 Road Glide 107 stage 1 averaged a 325 head temp without fans, and now averages 267, for a 58 degree temp drop with Love Jugs. My 2022 Low Rider ST 117 was 300 degrees hard temp stock, and now averages 249, for a 51 degree temp drop with the Love Jugs. So yes you are right. The newer bigger motors are running much hotter, and even with fans, they are still hotter that the old 96 Twin Cams with a tuner. I’m thinking that If I did a Power Vision tune on the 2021 and 2022, it would drop the temps even more.
