My mother lost her first baby at birth because he wasn’t breathing properly and he wouldn’t make it no matter what they tried. A year later my brother came along and he nearly died because he got stuck trying to come out as a baby but he made it. 3 years after I was born and I made it out okay too but my mother had cancer. (She is okay now and is cancer free) what I’m basically trying to say is it’s great that you include tragedies and realism to your backstories ❤

To explain the paintings, the son is a self taught artist who paints a lot of paintings but due to how small the town is, he never went to art classes, he wants to go to art school or at least University but his family won't be able to afford it so he works at the Asian market (Monday to Friday) and front desk at the Motel front desk on Saturdays and Sunday and gets good grades, he and the girl in the first house are friends because they have similar interests, he enters art competions for the prize money and hooks his friends up for cheaper or free snacks at the market, he's known to be a bit of a try hard, his parents are very proud of him but hides that he had a brother who died but he accidently knew because of the owners of the Motel when they accidently told him without knowing so he's trying his best to be his best version to make his parents happy with him His parents from time to time would discuss about their dead son, both of them wants to tell their alive son about their dead son but is waiting for the best time, they work really hard at their jobs so their son could go to art school, they support his dreams, the dad works at the Gas station on Saturdays and Sundays while the mum works as a Gardener in a different town from time to time, she even got a friend who was an art teacher to teach her son how to draw, they love their alive son a lot and does their best to support him while teaching him the value of hardwork, quite the wholesome family

although the house is made especially because there is a ladder to the attic/baby room I would have placed the teen boy room up there it also looks more spacious and put the baby room on the second floor since it is beside the parents which would seem more realistic to have the child closer to them, unless they did not settle before the child died
