Staples are much better and used on the front face only then trimmed to the edge( Don't forget to glue paste and size). That means if the flats are being slid on and off a van during regular use there is no damage caused because the edges are not canvassed. Paint covers the staples, so they are not visible. Cleats are another thing of the past. Pin hinges are much easier. Also always transport canvas to canvas.

Also intermediate rails ought to have 5mm less thickness because they'll show through when painted. I didn't hear any mention of not stretching the canvas too tight as it'll shrink after painting and can distort the frame. Cleats still have a use in a quick change if the flats are very tall and/or access is an issue.

absolutely no one builds theatre flats with half laps. corner blocks, keystones are standard, and then of course there are TV/Hollywood flats as well. why aren't there any video examples of the standard, in every text book, way of building flats? I know there are many ways it can be done that are as effective, but the standard, traditional methods are most commonly employed and yet impossible to find examples of in practice in video form.
