Building a Toy Excavator (Sand Box Digger) | 2020 Christmas Present

I designed and fabricated, (with the help from my friends), a sand box excavator for my little brother. This was his Christmas present for 2020, and he wanted an excavator. So, I made him one. Along the way I discuss the Design for Manufacturing process and how engineers use this on a daily basis.

I always admired the usefulness of 4 bar mechanisms for things like this, but could never find any type of course or training or theory-crafting for newbies to design them themselves.

Soooo cool! I saw one in a play park the other day and hopped on to have a go at excavating 💪🏻 well done in designing and building it. You are correct about the manufacturing design method: you can save a lot of time in keeping that in mind when designing a part for manufacture.

Looks good however when you scoop the lever should pull towards you....Looks like yours you push the lever rather than pull to scoop.

Hii bro... for Automotive designing which software is the best? And mostly used by companies all over the world

Hey Mohammed, Some companies like Honda, Toyota, Ford, and Freightliner use CATIA V5. But other larger companies use PTC CREO Parametric, SolidWorks, and Siemens NX. More of the larger companies use the higher end software, and the medium size companies use software such as SolidWorks and Autodesk Inventor. For automotive design, you want to work more with surfaces and bracketry. I would say CATIA V5 is the best for automotive, but a second best would be SolidWorks...which is more affordable for individual use.

@@mohammedaqeel5919 So from what I've heard through the industry, SolidWorks was on the rise to becoming the better CAD software, but CATIA bought them out. So now CATIA is still the best CAD software in the industry. The are both similar, but CATIA is stronger with surface modeling (body panels, interior panels, any organic shape). SolidWorks is more user friendly and easier to use. SolidWorks is still a capable and strong software, and I would use SolidWorks for anything I would ever need. Whichever software you use, you can translate skills over. Just use the CAD program you have available and become proficient with it.
