Whichever way you face the boat bridge, it will look great.

Wow Dave. It looked for a moment that this build was running away from you. Gladly your dogged determination has brought it back on track. I don't think my poor heart can take much more excitement!

I am enjoying your “unconventional” build. The neck attachment is coming out really well. I like your word “fill-its”-that’s how I’m imagining the spelling. Looking forward to your next episode.

😂 of course I used the wrong word I should have said shim but the whole water, boat and dolphin thing has got in my brain hence fillet 🤣 cheers Dave
@SparrowStockwell16 күн бұрын
@ I knew they were acting like shims, but I thought maybe fill-its was the English way to say it. I like it.

I think the boat would look better sailing up when on a stand or hanger but down in the playing position lol

Maybe drive two flush screws through the spline into the neck, then glue the now secure dovetail into the body.
@DaveDickens17 күн бұрын
That’s a good suggestion. I’m going to carve the neck first I don’t want the screws popping through. Thank you! Cheers Dave

this bridge will be adjustable? Dave... NASA might ring you up after this one! Cant wait to see it

Hopefully I will be able to slide it back and forth for intonation. That's the idea. Its certainly off the planet this build 🤣 Cheers Dave

I think I’m missing something here re: affixing your bridge. Why? Banjos, mandolins, archtop guitars, and the entire violin family don’t bother with that. Is it because your break angle back to whatever the strings tie to will be too shallow to hold the bridge in place linearly and laterally? I do hope the after-the-fact dovetail works without a bolt as it’s an intriguing option. - Paul

I don’t think you’re missing anything, it’s probably me who’s overthinking this. I want to effectively lock it in the vertical position but allow it to be moved horizontally (obviously in the playing position). I could do this with runners but I hope adding the magnets will stop the bridge falling off with no strings. An unnecessary feature to be honest but why not. Thank you for your comment! Cheers Dave

😬😬😬you should carve the heel of the neck to as close to final shape before you attach it to the body

Yes absolutely 👍 cheers Dave

I think the front of the boat should face downward, as if the music is sailing away from your hands outward.

Interesting that’s 2 votes for down 1 for up. I like your explanation. Cheers Dave
