This was so fun to watch back! For those wondering the piece should be published in the Economist (website/print) in December, probably around the 20th! It is about how lots of women are taking up DIY (and how some are posting about it on the internet). Thank you so much for having me, Hannah!

Watched you put together your pantry today. Then I put up shelving unit. I moved today. I'm 70, a social worker/psychologist from my 20's on. I have had lots of practice in what I call "getting back up". My friends, many from elementary school-high school daze (1960's), still stare & ask me: "how did you keep going?" You know what it is to get back up; it's a Choice. I will take all of the Awful shit & make great Stuff! Skills, coping & communication, always choose to dive down and find that fucking pony. Eight years ago my beautiful son died suddenly at 40 years of age. Undiagnosed malformation of the heart. My son Brian & I were so much alike that we honed our conflict resolutions skills like crazy sword makers. Today for the first time in 8.5 years I put together storage for my bathroom. Thank you Hannah for getting the fuck up and doing stuff. Bless your Heart.

Great job, better utilization of space. I've built many shelves like this. Here's a technic/ Measure the distance from floor to 1st shelf and cut a board that length and sit it the "cripple" vertically on the floor. Sit the shelf on it. Do the same for each shelf. All the weight is transferred directly to the floor and the weight the shelf can hold is almost unlimited. it's quicker because you don't have to take a level to them or worry about screws pulling out.

I like how that pantry is coming along. In watching your older videos I got to wondering about the pantry. Now I know. It looks good. Nice treat day activity. Basement looks good. Now the question is will it stay that way for long hehehe. And that screen door, that is way cool I have never seen a screen door like that. I may have to look for one like that whenever I get to get a place of my own. Oh I almost forgot. I am starting to sense a pattern here. If someone comes to stay with you they "need" to help you do something hahaha. Actually I always try to help whomever I'm staying with so whatever they need to do. For me it's kind of a warning my keep type thing. People that I usually visit appreciate the help and I enjoy helping. I guess it's just the way I was brought up. Anyways thank you Hannah for sharing some more of your life with us via these videos. May you continue to have a good one see ya next time. Have fun take care

If you decide to add more shelves along that back wall, they don’t have to be super thick, or deep! I would make several small shelves to hold a single layer of canned goods, jars, or spices. You could add a small piece of wood on the front of the shelf to keep the cans/jars in place, (earthquake proof) You will be surprised at how much food or cooking/baking supplies can fit on narrow shelves. I love your DIY projects! I love your new charging station in the basement! I see a fabulous peg board tool organization project in the future!!
