Great video! You were good at telling the story too. My only sailing experience is in a 15.5' Westport sharpie that a friend of mines has. Sharpies are beautiful boats.

Beautiful boat! Would love to know the basic dimensions, we know length as stated 15 ft, how about max beam across gunnels, across bottom and width of transom. Again, very awesome build.

Wow. I found your most recent videos, and I love your style of sailing. I have an interest in carpentry from deck building and framing work, but would LOVE to have a simple two person par and sail boat that was made by my own hands. This made it feel more feasible than I pictured. Very happy to have found your channel. Keep going!

Your advice to novice boat builders is excellent. I'm about to finish building a box-boat of my own design. I had to build it inside the house trailer I live in. The boat's 10 ft length stretches nearly from wall to wall. I have made numerous mistakes while building it, and can hardly believe I'm at the fitting out stage. You have built a nice, elegant boat.

Watching it sail, one can't help but think about how much power gets transferred from a good boom. I know lots of boats go without bit when it comes to pointing...

You're absolutely right. I have been running this rig with a boom for a while now. Huge improvement. Believe it or not, I also sail it with a jib sometimes. Works surprisingly well.

@cumberlandrover If you get to road trip, try visiting the wooden boat museum in Cambridge Maryland- their collection of working craft includes a number of Sharpies with various rig solutions. Also just a great facility

we must be doppelgangers or something i took all the hardware ,mast, keel from my mariner and cut up the rest took it to the dump because i couldn't put the mast up alone and my kids moved away an a thousand bucks a yr is to much for me to keep it at a dock so i built almost exactly the same boat you did except it's 12 ft long and resin coated ply lol small world hey

I liked it for convenience sake, but the boom provides a huge performance boost. Especially up wind.

You sound so different in this older video. Is it you or someone else? I thought I was on the wrong channel; the "other guy" has a super laid back, soft and sleepy manner of speech. Just an observation.
