As an orchid rehabilitator (I find dying orchids at the stores and rescue them on the cheap) I suggest the Vanda pachara orchid species. You don't have to put them in media instead just soak the roots once a week for an couple hours, meanwhile you can just tie them up with string to hang around your boat/home 😊 AND THEY'RE FRAGRANT ORCHIDS 😍🌺⛵ Ps: Vanda pachara orchids.can get really big, but they do have mini's 🥰

Great looking project Kika. Very tropical and homey. Couple of thoughts. Not sure what the mirror is made of, but if its glass, you might consider putting a plastic edge on it. Also, be careful with what you put behind the mirror, since there are wires back there. In particular, granular fertilizers are salts (conductive) and may also be hydroscopic (absorb water out of the air). So if they are not well sealed, you can end up with a gooey and highly conductive (and corrosive) mess. Liquid fertilizer may be ok though. Also, get some clear safety glasses so we don't see any finger tips hitting the blade.... Love your channel.

Guys, lets talk camera stabilization. Whats your secret? Your b-roll shots are so smooth.👏🏾💪🏾
@SailingUma6 жыл бұрын
It's really a combo of many different things. 1. Starting with a good solid stance/base to shoot from (think Tai Chi) 2. The Sony a6500 (our 'A' camera) has a stabilized sensor AND stabilized lens which is SWEET! 3. We often shoot b-roll in 120p so it's even smoother. HA! That's 3 points, looks like we should make a video about it now.

Old video I know. Hopefully you will read this. I am sure it was fun, but that looks like a great micro-green grow space. With LED lighting the power draw would be less than you think. It would still draw. But fresh green sprout salad daily, even after weeks at sea. That space could easily fit 3 decent sized trays. Gimballed trays on a frame with lights on the underside for the tray underneath.. Sorry, didn’t mean to rain on the fun project parade. Again I apologize as I work for a CEA (controlled environment agriculture) equipment supply and manufacturing company. Also, you could add a little mushroom log and have fresh mushrooms every now and then. Would that not be double? Sure it’s one more thing to do. But it’s just setup of the crop then minimal monitoring til harvest.

Kiki, I'm sure you have used a table saw before, but please find the blade guard for that table saw and install it. Also, push sticks are a wonderful thing when cutting small pieces. @steveswoodworking25043 жыл бұрын
Kika, when you are cutting those little pieces on the table saw, you cannot have the piece constrained between the fence and the blade like that. Then you used your fingers to hold it, which is very dangerous. What will happen is a slight tilt on that piece and it starts turning and compressing into the blade. The blade will grab that piece and throw it back at you at high speed. Maybe into your stomach, maybe into your face. Since your fingers were on that piece - it will pull your fingers right into the blade. Be careful. Don't use the fence for crosscuts.

Do you have any plans to secure these plants for while you're under sail? If you're heeling to your port side you could send the whole garden into your salon. And what would happen if you had a knockdown? All loose objects become weapons when flying loose during heavy seas, as I think you probably know from Dan's head injury.

You have to be careful with magnets or even metal on boats as they can affect the compass and even a small deviation can put you far off course over time.
@turnersparadise83686 жыл бұрын
lol, that is too funny. The metal would have to be right on top of the compass in the first place, in the second, who relies on a compass? Sheesh, it isn't the 1800's Captain Hornblower....

Cant speak for the rest of the world, but back in the 90's when I was doing customs clearance, the bulk of which was Dutch plants, flowers and trees, they had to accompanied by a phytosanitary certificate. Not purely because they were entering the UK, but because they were foruse within the country. I dare say common sense has to prevail - even with the govt at times - and houseplants which are staying on the boat should be fine. If the powers that be reeally wanted to get stupidly bureaucratic about it, they would insist that all "foreign going " vessels have their hulls cleaned of ALL plant and animal life before entering UK waters. I would imagine that things will be pretty much the same in all countries for houseplants which are never likely to leave the boat, just so long as you dont bring them ashore

Galapagos Islands require the cleaning IIRC, NZ not. But the plants a lot of places will get excited by. It's not even really the plants, it's the insects and microflora that come with them. It only takes one little mite or wasp or something and suddenly half pine trees in Canada are dead.
