Building an LED Uplighting System | What to buy?

I got my start in up-lighting with [36] Chauvet Slim-Par 38's. They've made it 4 years running beautifully, and now I'm upgrading those 36 fixtures to some brand new WiFly Par QA5's. Very excited!

are all the ADJ RGB uplighting fixtures compatible with each other and the controller? I've got some mega pars and would consider buying some tri LED and bar fixtures if they all work together nicely.

I strongly disagree with mixing different types of uplights. One may be brighter than the other, the other may not support UV or white light. And some might not sync

I bought some cheap 20 watt led lamps in a tool company and put some color film on them they work really well, and with good dispersion of the light.

Any chance you could review a new light Gear4DJs have released? It's the GEAR4DJS FUTUREPAR. I want to know if it's as good if not better than ADJ's TriPar.

This is a great video, but the problem I've encountered is that the Mega Bar LED RC has been discontinued. I noticed that ADJ makes other "Mega Bar" models, but Idk what is comparable. Thoughts? Update: Turns out the Jelly Go Par is also discontinued, though I did find a couple retailers selling it. Thoughts on a replacement for that one also?

Great quality video... except for one thing! There are many people who just don't know what uplighting can do (which is why they're watching vids like this). It would have been so great if you had shown three or four examples of rooms, instead of just the one limited view) so that people can see what can be done, or why they need uplighting. Just a thought...

I've got 4 Slim Par 56 lights, and am looking at the ADJ Mega TriPar Profile line, as well as some Freedom tri-led lights from Chauvet and an Obey40 with wireless DMX. Any input? Great tips on possibly getting a couple bar style uplights, maybe later. Also, great tip on the DMX splitter. Keep shining bro...

This is what you have now not what would be good to buy. If you have done a few setups you will soon relise that battery powered leds are the way to go. Cost wise if you add up all the cables etc even works out better. i think you have missed the boat on this one.

To have all your uplights battery powered is a luxary. This is meant to be a starter uplighting setup and I can't say go and buy a load of the most expensive uplights you can. I prefer a mixture of different lights so I will have a few battery fixtures but mostly wired to save money. Cable isn't that expensive. It is if you buy each individual cable but its much cheaper to make your own.

But, wired uplighters will last longer because with battery powered lights the battery will eventually wear down, therefore shortening the life of your investment!

DJ NEB WeddingDJBusiness also what happens when you need to leave your uplights on for longer than 8 hours. Then you are forced to use wired lights anyway

***** From a setup point of view finding power outlets is not always easy in the right position at the venue. Running cables x2 if you are using dmx is very time consuming and messy, ie trip hazzards. From time point of view normally you would not have your led lights on for more than 4 hours - reception dance so the 8 hours is not a issue and if was with the battery lights you can still use power cable if you needed. Buying wise not always better to buy cheaper ie for battery capability you are looking about an extra $100 but well worth it. for flexibility and time saving. With buying cables ( power and dmx) you need to buy a selection of different lengths, some short, some longer. The longer lengths can easily add upto big dollars. Storage wise lots of cables get tangled they weigh heavy and packdown at the end of the night is consuming. For mobile use I would recommend battery every time. If you want added flexibilty with colour changes go for the extra and go for wifly. Don't bother with the bars and 6-8 max is all you will need for most events. that will set you back about $3000- $400 but you will have a an awesome mobile lighting system that you will love using. Lastly try and stick with the same model of light, different lights have different settings slightly different colours and look messy in the setup. If I was recommending a light to buy now i would suggest something like ADJ American DJ WiFly Par QA5 WH AKKU LED Compact Floor Scheinwerfer RGBA DMX. For a cheaper starter pack version without the wifly i would recommend ADJ Mega Go series Mobile/flexible

+Josh Spehar These lights use normal power cable with IEC C13 (female) and C14 (male) plugs. Newer and more expensive fixtures usually have either Neutrik PowerCON 20A or Neutrik PowerCON TRUE1.
