Superb instructional video there Rob. Love the fact you get the power to each table through the joining bolts - great idea.

I kicked that from a forum post I read some time ago lol.

This is a great tutorial on a wood routed track. Learned a bunch from this and I hope to one day put what I’ve learned into practice, Thanks Rob 👍

Yes Rob, 'outstanding' is the right word. If I had the time then I would have maybe just wood routed some 22 - 25mm mdf to wood slot depth and kept it flat and then left it at that but with you, and with all this intricate woodwork, there is so much more in terms of creative elan and, quite literally, a whole third dimension to this project. 🔨📏📐🏁🏁🏁

Thank you. 22-25mm would be hugely over built, 12mm would be perfect for 9mm wood guides and 9mm for 7mm standard guides.

LOL, I'd like to see that video of "flying tools" Harry 😀 I doubt it would be more entertaining than fly slot cars into the toilet though 🤣🤣

Awesome!!! Thinking of building a single track myself. Maybe not quite the work of art this one is . But I’ve always wanted a rally type course. Great work Rob!!

Hi Rob, I saved this clip for a few weeks to watch. It was worth waiting to watch it. Well done Mate. I see you are using a Metabo drill-machine. Good choice. I got a big Metabo hammer drilling machine myself. I never use the hammer mode with it though. My shop is pretty small and I don`t have the room for a big drillstand. I got a Wabeco drill-stand and attach that Metabo to it. It is a 100% right angled set up and the Machine runs totally centric. I can demount the Wabeco easily and put it away. Metabo is one of my favourite brands if it comes to corded power-tools. I got some machines I can rely on 100%. By the way, my YT name is made from abbreviations of the power-tools, I am working with: Bo(sch) M(akit)aM(etab)o. I learned a little from your working flow, which I will do, as soon as I got some jobs comming up again. Thanx for this content. Very inspirational they are and I appreciate it. Greets over to the Isle. 🙂

Thanks Man, I love my old drill, I did a swap for it 30 years ago for a model boat mould I made!! I only use the big drill because my Dewalt screwdriver wore out last year and I can't afford to buy a new one, so impractical big drill it is lol.

Great video again Rob. Just wondering why you use 6mm and add the joiners rather than a thicker piece of MDF and not need the joiners. They seem like a weak point.
@SwiftSlots26 күн бұрын
They are a weak point if you use the board like a table. But during modelling when you are lugging the baseboards all over the place on your own, the lightness of 6mm really helps. The boards can be stiffened at any point with longer joiners screwed and glued ether side of the track under the 'grass'. But like you say, if you don't mind the weight and extra cost of the thicker baseboards, you can make them from 9 or 12mm depending on slot depth (7-9mm). Once the whole thing is made and finished, the thinner boards don't matter, so why have them thicker and heavier than needed (unless you want to stand on the track). Also having the slots open means you can't get any bits falling and getting stuck in the bottom of the slot.
