I love the paintjob on this Ship. Upper and lower Hull are amazing and the Flag on top of the turret gives a nice touch. Great Work. Beautiful Ship. :D

I am just about done with the Heller model of the Richelieu.( A real pain in the...) and i m not fully satisfied. Watching you build the trumpeter version makes me want to give it a shot. My grandfather served on this beauty in 1940 when it left Brest just before the german army took the town. He was on deck during the english air raid in Dakar but left the Royale in october 1940 to join the free french forces of Leclerc.

I can only imagine that the heller version might be a little bit crude regarding details and probably has fit issues, i also have a Heller king george v in 1/400 on my stash and the parts look bent and twisted in every possible way :D I can highly recommend the Trumpeter version, it is a beautiful ship and the kit is great and easy-going. Very interesting story! i would have been amazed to see her in reality, one of my most favourite ships as well!

There are two things I like here, your choice of ship and the job that you have done on it. High praise. I love Quad Turrets but that is not the main reason I go for the Richelieu. The French and Italian built beautiful battleships but this one especially gets my vote.

Thanks! The richelieu is one of my favourite ships, i wish trumpeter would scale the 1/350 version up to 1/200 as they do with some other ships - that would be amazing!

If you like the box art-work, I think it's taken from the work of Randall Wilson. He's an Australian artist who operates under the name Navart. His ships are brilliant and I have a print by him of the Yamato. Happy New Year to all.

Hi, great job on the camo on the hull. You said you mixed medium blue in with the grey - but which grey - Light Grey or Sky Grey and a 50-50 mix?

Nice work. I don't care for the slight gap where hull and deck come together in the bow and stern areas.

Looks real good. I think you installed the main guns into the turret upside down. I’ve never seen a blast bag with right angles like that.
@funinscale28924 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I'm not sure about the blast bags either, but the installation was only possible in this way. maybe they installed a plate under the bag to stop it from wrapping into the gun mount or something
@mazda_rt24-p4 жыл бұрын
No, they are on right...you did it right french battleships have very distinct blast bags

@funinscale28923 жыл бұрын
Hi! Thanks very much! It is a silicon stencil which is used by tattoo airbrushers, it is called "grudge stencil", and i got it from amazon. THere are many designs for those tattoo stencils, but you can find one for the right scale and shape

I would not have wanted to be one of the forward AA gun crews when those main gins fired :(
@funinscale28924 жыл бұрын
True, seems like a bad place to stay! But from a bit away, these guns firing would be quite a sight!
@mazda_rt24-p4 жыл бұрын
They dont allow people on the deck (at least the forward deck) when they fire those guns...your head would probably explode from how loud they are and how much vibration they cause...you can feel it in the entire ship when those guns fire
@funinscale28924 жыл бұрын
@@mazda_rt24-p I wish they would somehow, somewhere reactivate some big guns from those times and fire them live, like the iowas or something, i'd fly over there to watch it, given i could afford it. Sadly, many of the most beautiful ships were victims of the post-war depression. if we could just glance at warspite, being moored next to Belfast in the heart of london...

Amazed that there was no p.e. with this kit. How long has this been out? I'm still working on my 1 / 350 Alaska.
@funinscale28924 жыл бұрын
It is from 2008, scalemates says. I'm not sure when trumpeter started to put PE parts in their kits but i also have a North carolina and it doesnt have PE; the Blücher also had very little, i think only the most recent have a huge amount of PE included so you dont need to go to aftermarket sets

@dusanbolek80043 жыл бұрын
Really nice paint job, but can't help myself, but a capital ship in 1/350 looks terrible without PE railings. It just so obvious in this scale that something is missing and very not right. I know there is no PE included with the model (which is sad considering it is not that cheap) and that as far as I know, there are no aftermarket PE sets for this ship either, but I would just get some generic set or maybe a set from different ship with similar railings, but definitely would put something on the ship. I have just finished putting railings on my USS Arleigh Burke (almost done thanks God :-) ) and even a smaller ship than this looks so much better with it.
@funinscale28923 жыл бұрын
True, railings are always a good addition! I just like to build out of the box so others can see if a kit is suitable out of the box, and what you can do without investing more than the kit. Or at least, what i am trying with it.
@dusanbolek80043 жыл бұрын
@@funinscale2892 Yeah, I meant it from the point of the model itself. Indeed, it is nice and informative to show to the public what they will get for their money. For example, I'm just right now looking for some 1/350 battleship to build and because of this video Richelieu is out of the list, because that kit is just too expensive considering the level of detail and lack of PE parts. From the model in this price range I expect little more detail and definitely at least railings and some other basic PE parts like antennas or cranes.
@funinscale28923 жыл бұрын
@@dusanbolek8004 True. This kit is expensive and lacks some things, but i highly enjoy building it every time, its just a great ship. Id be very happy if they did a rework of it, a rebox for Jean Bart, eg, and then add some slide molded parts and PE
@wasabyorechy15853 жыл бұрын
Flyhawk has detail set for the Richelieu, but that really does not help with the cost.
