This prototype shouldn't existed the fact that this man try to build something like this is a very interesting process, so of course we like every episode until this unicorn Grumpy prototype will eventually be completed and actually run.. You are a very lucky fellow to film all of it and we love everything so far keep doing this work man we really like every episode.. i can not imagine at the end what the Audi representants would say or someone like W.Rohrl would give this prototype a driving shot that would be actually epic.. 2 legends re-united since i read in magazines about the fact that W.Rohrl actually secretly did a short test of the original unicorn and he mentioned that because it was mid-engine he could push it faster and it was more nimble than what he drove at that time the Audi S1 EVO..

You should definitely get in touch with Johnny Smith aka Late Brake Show, would be amazing coverage for the channel this deserves to be seen by as many people as possible. I’m sure Johnny would jump at the chance to see this car and your other two also

Awesome build. When we used to hill climb, it was always a sceptical to see Tom Hamond turn up with his green shorty towing his Pike Peak replica at Loton Park etc. we had a A1 rally car in our motorsport team, and I have had loads of ur’s in various ages and specs, from standard to highly modified so I love this content. I remember Tom tried to buy the first version S1 PDK box from Audi… their reply was ‘yes, certainly Tom, just purchase Audi GMBH first and you can have one free’… the Germans do have a sense of humour and sarcasm 😂

It would be fabulous to have one of the original works drivers to come along and do a few laps in it when the project is completed. (As a fan of the looks of an RS200) I’m so excited about seeing this beauty on four wheels! Wonderful project 👍🙏

Alot more complicated than the mk2 Escorts i used to build in the 80`s. Hats off to you man for taking this on. I can only imagine the huge cost & the time that has gone in so far. Looking forward to see this progress.

One of the best projects in a long time I saw on yt, honestly not the big audi fan but the build quality, atention to detail and thought process max respect Maybe one suggestion for dash, when you already have double gauges, make oil press and water temp gauges work from second set of sensors just to have double information in case something happens you can instantly know is it sensor gauge or engine problem, because thoes two are most important for engine health. Keep us posted, can't wait for next video😊

David, friend, this is a great project, like everything you touch. For me, this is a great motivation in assembling my Audi quattro S2. I am very grateful to you for your advice on the 07k engine and on the dry sump system, I will do the same as you did on the S1, thank you very much and I am very glad that I know you.

When I first heard your accent my heart sort of dropped that this project wasn’t U.K. based but I was elated when you said you were based near Silverstone! I live near there too!

Really interesting build. Look forward to the next installment. Editing on this one was a bit annoying when you were showing us parts like the dampers and then it kept cutting away to the side of your head every couple of seconds. It would be nice to see more close ups of the parts.

Only question I have is why wouldn't you use a AAN or old school Audi 5 cylinder for such a historic and important project? I understand the availability and displacement from an 07k but the noise is quite different and honestly a lot better from an AAN, 3B, 7a etc.

Please, it's a completely different type of gearbox and driveline, a completely different type of suspension with R8 parts, etc. So Everything is modern and better, so why would they use an old type of engine?

@@ealoken I own one so I can tell you it really isn’t hard to get parts especially for full on builds. It probably is a tad bit harder than a 07k. The only problem I have was watching his other 07k sport quattro the sound really isn’t the same compared to old 5 cylinder builds

@@MartinEhrsson Because it’s a historic 1/1 replica build that would’ve used a AAN type engine back in the day. Also it’s not like using an old engine is bad, it’s a complicated air pump so both engines will do the same thing. One just sounds 2x better and is made for the car and the other engine is made for a vw golf.

Looks pretty neat with heat schrink on the loom😉 iam more in to tessa fabric tape, but this looks nice pad your self on the back, this is where i like to geak out myself, nice that iam not alone in, keep up the nice work, who made the gearbox/diff for you??? Question! You said at the beginning of the VT that some people who were involved with the original build and design reached out to you. Have they at any stage advised that any part of your current design is incorrect given that you had little or no data to go on or that you may have to significantly change something as per their knowledge on the original design? Curious?

sucks there were no real fabrication etc in these videos it woulda been much more interesting to see more indepth in the process of building the car rather then just some sudden apparence of finished parts

Amazing project. Some feedback on the videos themselves - please try and *show* a bit more, rather than simply *tell* all the time. Also, please try and stop staying “stuff like that” quite so often!

What are you smoking? This and WRC are completely unrelated. WRC Rally 1 efforts need 30+ millions per season. Subaru has enough problem selling cars without going the Mitsubishi way.

The construction of the 'replica' of the nonextant Audi Group S mid-engine rally car in Pattishall? is a veritable reminder of what the commercial rally sector of the UK Motorsport Industry (Motorsport Valley) once was with the nearby Banbury, Prodrive Subaru Rally Team (Group A, N and World Rally Car etc) and Rugby, Mitsubishi Ralliart Europe (Group A, World Rally Car etc) and the UK companies that provided services to the programs. Subaru Australia are dipping their toes back into the rally waters with the WRX Challenge Class for the Australian Rally Championship.

The ‘original’ car was crushed so I think that’s the idea behind the word ‘missing’, hence there is no specific or ‘original’ Audi Group S RS001 in existence as of right now. So Dave is building it from the ground up.
