Oh - I hadn't actually caught on when I saw your video - this one was chromed vs the one I got back in November. It was moulded in a darker grey metallic, it was not chromed at all. I saw another build video where the moulded plastic finish was more like mine and then when I re-read your video title - "A-Ha" Bandai put out two versions of it. Either way, your build was quite good and I'm going to use techniques from both yours and the other one to finish mine. Take care and keep well. Let's hope for everyone, a much better new year for 2022!

Wow, you really Bob Ross-ed those yellow stripes (look unsalvageable until the very end at which point it's miraculously saved by the artist's skill because they knew what they were doing the entire time)

Heh, sometimes I know what I'm doing! But yeah the stripe technique came from doing the same trick on many clone trooper figure kits.

I love how bandai released 2 of the razor crest and 2 of the mandalorian model kits. One with the silver coating and the other without. I imagine it was probably an after thought just to make a bit more money. Anyway, loved the build and I look forward to seeing how well you do on the mandalorian.

I think Bandai and the retailers know the popularity of the kit, so they jack the price up, cause they know people will buy it! I got the basic one from a CDN retailer for $22. The silver edition was $36. Anyway, love the kit and illuminated the engines. I like what you did with the different metallics!

I just bought the Mandalorian model. I was pretty excited to see it’s coming up. Great job on this one though. I going to look for the Razor Crest online, wish me luck. I like the idea of a paintbrush model. I’ve been looking into airbrushes. Just not excited about the expense. But, you obviously can’t beat the results of a airbrush. Love you videos.

I've was hoping you'd get around to building this, I was curious how you'd approach painting it. I got the non-silver one and chromed it up, then weathered the heck out of it. It was a constant battle between wanting the shiny silver and wanting a gritty Star Wars ship. I like your approach with the different textures of metal plating!
@historex54tamiya2 жыл бұрын
The Molotov silver pen refills can be airbrushed and give a mirror silver finish. Nice build, the solid cockpit seems Bandai missed full marks to me, makes it look very toy like.

Great video!! 👍👍👍👍 I got my model back at the end of November. My cost was $19CDN but then I found it at a local hobby store that is in a mall so their prices are a bit more than a stand alone store elsewhere. I picked it up as it is such an unique piece and the Revell version was/is still at a TBD arrival date here in Canada even though its appeared on US model sites. I've repainted mine as I found the moulded metal sheen just a bit too bright. I primed it with Mr Hobby white primer as a base and then shot it with Tamiya's light Gun Metal. It still is silvery but not as bright. I've not actually seen an episode - just KZbin videos and it has seemed to be not that bright a surface. Just my opinion. I've not gotten to the weathering part yet and I like what you did with replacing the stickers - I didn't think that those window stickers would have stuck properly anyways. I'm going to try to replicate some of your techniques in my own way - especially since I don't have the paint collection you have - LOL.
@modelchili2 жыл бұрын
Cheers! Yeah, it perhaps is a bit too silver for how it looks on screen, but when I build these there's a battle between what looks screen accurate, and what looks good as a miniature object on display. The silver just looked too good to cover up, so I'm happy with the end result.

An interesting build for sure. The kit reminds me of the old chrome Testor kits I use to build as a kid, could never get the paint to stick worth a damn. But modeling is suppose to be fun and from what I saw you had fun building this kit. What I am curious about is how long before the next Shelby Cobra video will be posted?

@richarddufault2 жыл бұрын
Expensive kit indeed. I liked it, but disappointed that there is no interior or landing gear for the price. The scale seems to be 1/144. Mine was the non-metalllic version which had the stickers AND water slide decals. Recently, I ordered the new Revell one at 1/72 scale - we'll see what that looks like.
@modelchili2 жыл бұрын
You got waterslides? That seems a bit unfair to pay more and not get them. Ah well, no use worrying about it now. Yeah I wondered if it was 1/144, but that would make it about the same size as a TIE Fighter (which I also have), that makes it feel a bit small.
@richarddufault2 жыл бұрын
@@modelchili OK wait no. I rewatched my build video and it was only stickers. I used masking to do the peeling stripes.

Not sure how well that paint will adhere to that surface without some kind of bite. In my experience using Vallejo paints they have a tendency to chip and flake without a primer to adhere to.

Its a really nice model but a shame thats its in such an odd scale ie 1/220 if Scalemates has it right. Would have been better (although more expensive that i accept) in 1/144 or failing that in 1/350 to fit in with the smaller Falcon. 1/144 however to fit with the various Bandai and FineMoulds Falcons and Slave One kits would have been ideal.
