Building birch ply drawers for a Scandinavian inspired kitchen | Atelier Cabinet Makers

We are currently in the process of building a Scandinavian inspired kitchen and thought it would be fun to show you how we make and fit our drawers! We are using Blum tandem soft close drawer runners and the drawers carcasses and drawers are made from birch ply wood.

We are a young couple named Jamie and Rhiannon we set up our own company Atelier Cabinet Makers in August 2015 making Bespoke Handmade Kitchens, furniture and design. With Jamie's nearly 10 years experience as a cabinetmaker and my love for interior design and keen apprentice we wanted to branch out in to the world of KZbin. J Smith Woodwork . I,m down in Cornwall and unfortunately there is no Axminster tools this far down. I,v been in the one in Nuneaton though and it’s like a sweet shop. So it’s best they don’t open one down here,I spend enough on tools as it is. Keep up the good work.

This is a very nice looking way to build drawers! I have been building using the same method but I hadn't figured out doing the little skirt part on the sides. Do you feel that really makes the drawer look better once it has a face on it? Also, what finishes are you doing, if any, for the drawers? I've been doing water based matte polyurethane

Stuff I Made thanks Geoff! The model for the runners is 560H55B they are the Blum tandem with blumotion. The music is from a copyright free site, not sure on the artist sorry!

Paul Gray we always add the clips when fitting on site, this keeps them safe whilst transporting cabinets and drawers etc

Good video, thanks. What are the holes drilled in the two bottom corners for? Found the link above to your website did not work. Did a little search myself and found this: jsmithwoodworkshop.squarespace.com/ Cheers, David.

DRMNZ thanks David, will check the link and get it fixed! The holes drilled for two locating pins, one at the back of each runner. These help to hold the back of the drawer in place, whilst the front is held by lever clips which screw to the underside of the drawer. Hope this helps!
