In order to make irons for one of the greatest iron players on Tour, it takes meticulous attention to detain, the highest quality materials, and extensive testing. This process takes you through the entire process of the physical production of Collin's custom P·7CM irons from block to his bag. Head to our site to read the full story about how he tested and came up with this design and how it all ties into The Open Championship.

@@samjordan4704 I design in Fusion360. It's pretty basic compared to some more established CAD packages but proficient enough! My putters are a mix of machined components and 3D printed parts so tend to outsource metal components but will print on either formlabs machines for SLA parts (high durometer rubber faces, for example) or outsource for SLS parts dependant on the requirements of the part. Always get questions about my putter every time I play with some new, the good bit for amateurs is that the R&A share conforming requirements and without the clubs being used in professional competition they do not need to be physically assessed, just comply with the requirements so are legal for local competition. Most people try to argue the validity when they're losing! ...back to designing mk11! cheers!

The steel might not be “forged” by heating and hammering the blank for each head but the steel making rolling mill process which transforms ingots to plate steel imparts directional grain into the steel. The distinction of a club being “forged” is to differentiate it from one created with pour casting (e.g. PING) which creates different grain structure in the steel. For example when you trying to bend a early PING Eye or Eye 2 club to adjust lie and loft there is a high risk of cracking it, why in later models the notch in the hosel was added. Nowadays all the PING irons are cast to the “blue dot” lie angle then adjusted to customer specs when ordered which the notch facilitates.

@markgriffin1384 Жыл бұрын
No wonder they are so expensive the amount of time used to CNC that and they wasted probably enough metal to make four irons just to make one, nice clubs though. And to answer why forging might be considered better is because the grain in a forging is drawn out into a bar then bent into an L shape before being pressed into an iron this means the grain of the metal flows through the head into the neck, with this the layers or grains will all flow the same direction which will produce different harmonics when you strike the ball and sound is what you sense as feel. Also forging will increase consistency of the grains and the density of the metal giving a more consistent result from strikes probably minimal if you can tell the difference but when you are paying this much in this bracket of irons you should be looking for the best but again that is subjective....

I had a chance to speak to a pga tour pro once and asked if pros play the same off the rack clubs consumers play as these companies claim and he said no. He said their clubs are built different. Also the loft, lie, length differ and even the shaft flex differ between their irons. btw, milling is far more precise than any human hand. you can replicate exactly the same club every single time with milling. especially the sole which these guys care so much about. turf interaction is very important for these guys. but then again, equipment you use now are far better than the ones Tiger used to win most of his tournaments back in the 90s and 00s. So their clubs are customized to their liking which allows them to be more consistent and more precise. If I had a choice between P7TW and Miura MB 101, I would go with P7TW irons hands down. P7TW is milled and MB is grinded.

How does a milled iron compare to a forged or cast iron? I assume it would align much more closely with a forged club as the block would have been forged into that shape, but have never heard this explained before.
@dannylovell8845
@dannylovell8845 Жыл бұрын
I believe that a cast head is when iron is poured into a cast and then set. Forging is when the iron is heated and pounded out from a single block of iron. Milling refers to the shaping of the head along with the it's features, such as grooves. I am definitely not a smithing expert so I encourage you to do your own research for a better answer :)

I have genuine miura 6iron bought directly from miura with tour issue x100 and P7TW from TM and Zforged irons from Srixon and guess what? when struck in the sweet spot, srixon and P7TW feel identical. I honest think miura doesn't feel as good as the P7TW. But of you want the same quality blades for 1/3 of the price. go with srixon. Miura is definitely NOT worth the high price tag. Mizuno JPX923 Tour though is by far the best bc it gives you forgiveness, long distance, workability, and feel. I tried modus 3 120x, 105s and DG S300 and by far it feels best with DG S300. modus 3 120x is not a good shaft at all. if you go with modus get the 105s. it became way too soft feeling which I don't like with 105s. also swing weight was off by 2 points in either direction. They forgot to put head weights and terrible epoxy job. I took the whole thing apart and rebuilt it and now they are at D4 swing weight. you need to add 6g brass head weight to get to D4 with STD grip and 2 wraps of tape
