Help could you please help me I've been building a guillows spitfire but I've been watching your video and I'm confused about how to set the Dihederal,Any tips please 🤞
@CliffHarveyRCPlanes
@CliffHarveyRCPlanes 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Lippoo, on the plan it'll tell you somewhere how much dihedral you should have under each wing tip, so pin the centre section down (if it has one, you may be building the smaller Spitfire) and place a block of some sort under each tip and measure whatever the plan tells you adjusting the block in and our until each tip is at the correct height., hope this helps 👍

I’ve just completed framing the guillows spitfire. I relied on your build video quite a bit. Thank you for sharing your expertise. I would like to build all the 400 series guillows war planes. Any advice and direction is greatly appreciated. The little things are much appreciated , how and why , materials , techniques. Keep building!! Jb

Nice looking wing. Just occurred to me while watching you work that you could have taken the bulk out of every other rib. Do you weigh it before and after you remove the wood. 👍
@CliffHarveyRCPlanes
@CliffHarveyRCPlanes 4 жыл бұрын
Well Jon I'm sure I could have taken more out of the ribs but they are quite soft balsa so the weight saving would have been negligible against the strength lost in this case. Yes I did see 12:15, thanks for commenting. 🙂

It's looking awesome Cliff! I'm still considering getting one or similar. Not cheap though at £67! I've been looking at their whole range. Quite tempted by the DR1 .

Thanks, I paid a little less than that but I bit the bullet, it is a nice kit with some nice touches, least of all the laser cut parts which have saved so much time, and will build up to look a really nice model!

Very nice Cliff, amazing how much weight could be 'saved' while maintaining integral strength in the wing. I see there appears to be a slot for a dihedral panel. Or is it an under carriage fitting?
@CliffHarveyRCPlanes
@CliffHarveyRCPlanes 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Jo, you're right on both counts, it's for a dihedral brace that the uc is bound to, all is explained in the next video 🙂

Do you think it'd be possible to add alirons an 5g servos in the wings? An add elevator an Rutter to this? Currently building one myself an wanna convert it to electric with alirons an Rutter an elevator

5 grams is really impressive, would multiple holes be more advantageous, or would it weaken the structure too much? Here’s to that 4 min flight!
@CliffHarveyRCPlanes
@CliffHarveyRCPlanes 4 жыл бұрын
I suspect most of the weight was in the leading edge before shaping, I could probably have squeezed in at least one smaller hole in front and behind without it causing any strength problems but I couldn't see past the size of the hole I'd already made if you follow me!

For doing contest flying the all up weight should be 1/2 gram per square inch of wing. Or 2.5 cm.. Sport flying is 1 gram per square inch of wing. If the build is more then 1 gram per square inch then the model must fly faster to get the right amount of lift to fly. Very hard to fly heavy models on rubber. My best indoor scale flight was 48 seconds on a peanut model. Best flight over all was 9 minutes and 49 seconds but not with scale models. I enjoy your videos. PS I have flow scale models over 1 minute but not in a contest.

@DoyleBlevins
@DoyleBlevins 4 жыл бұрын
@@CliffHarveyRCPlanes For sure use something else. The Guillow's rubber is only good for balancing the plane. It is like winding up a shoestring. :)

I see that in most ribs you only made one whole. I think you could afford to lighten up each rib a little more to reduce the weight.

Hi Cliff - for the center section joining to the left and right wings, did you cut an angle on the centre K3 piece to make the butt joint? Just at this stage in my build of the Spitfire 403 kit, and it's going fairly well due to your video series.
@CliffHarveyRCPlanes
@CliffHarveyRCPlanes 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Rod, great to hear the build is going well, to answer your question 'yes', a little light sanding you be enough, you're looking to get a wood-to-wood joint for as much strength as possible 👍

Hi Dave, I use a combination of CA and Aliphatic wood glue, it does dry reasonably quickly but the parts were laser cut so they fit well even without glue.
