Building Hownsgill Plate Mill in Consett

1959 saw the start of construction work on what was the world's most advanced steel plate rolling mill at Hownsgill in Consett, County Durham, UK. The huge building was 2.7 million cubic feet in volume and the first plate was rolled there in September 1960. It was officially opened by Lord Mills in April 1961.
