Appreciate all the Old Pro detail and exact procedures. I plan to build a few rural structures (cooking shed for Summer, outhouse, etc. and plan to build all out of logs. I just finished a poor man's wood shed, using wood pallets for three sides with a pole in the middle for the open side, and with a horizontal log lying on top and tying in the two open sides. I cut a rough mortise and tenon in the pole and horizontal log with my Stihl 028 chainsaw after chalking it out. Worked great, after a lot modifying with a chisel, but I want to up my game and do a better, more craftman's-like job. Thanks very much.

It's too bad the poster has not given credit to the gentleman who created this video, world renowned Log home builder and teacher, B Allan Mackie. This video is from a DVD series which he created in the 90's. He died in February of 2017. RIP.

Best video on the topic ever! Wondering what is the name of the wraparound squares used in the video. The closest one found on amazon is called Japanese flexible square. But that seems only able to bend slightly, not wrap around a log. Any idea where to buy the wraparound square?

Michael Chen I found a company that produces squares and bendable rules, but they don't make bendable squares. They even market the rules for timber/ roundwood. I just thought to make one out of a roll of Galvanized roof flashing. Since you wouldn't actually want to use it for laying out measurements.

How to Build a Shed same question what's the name of them flexing squares and the pins used to secure them are they pins from a ink line? Great videos ! Very helpful

Basically cut a square hole to match a square post to fit together. Be sure to locate the joint where you want it. Now you can skip watching someone use a chainsaw, hammer & chisel whole Mr Monotone drones in occasionally. You’re welcome.

Doesn't sound like you've ever touched a wood tool, but go ahead and blather on. The guy's a frickin artist with that chainsaw!

@@a3a14613 Not to mention all the tips, techniques and procedures that actually do the job, rather than just make a short, smug description. Dix sounds like a city boy whose only familiar hand tool is his iPad.
