I got the Mechanical Pendulum kit and I thought why not make a video of it being built.
This Pendulum Clock designed by Robotime is a 166-piece 3D wooden puzzle. Each piece is laser cut from plywood so you don't need any scissors or knife to get each piece. It is self-assembly and no gluing needed. No battery as it is a wind up clock operated by a spring.

I've just finished one of these and it's ticking away beside me. I'll give it a few days running in and see what sort of time it keeps. I notice there are some gears that are for decoration only. The big one at the back which is actually fixed in place is easy enough to understand. What's more puzzling are the two small gears on the back of the hour wheel. They don't mesh with anything and I can't see anything that they could mesh with. The final step is getting all the spacers adjusted so the wheels mesh correctly. But there's no way I can see of adjusting the hour wheel so those two small gears at the back mesh with anything. Strange! I'm very impressed with it. The materials are good, the wood is first class and the instructions are pretty easy to follow. Having said that some of the pieces are very small and delicate. I broke two of the tiny tenons off but fortunately there were spares. I opened up the holes very slightly so they slipped in more easily and that did the trick. It seems to be quite stable even though they're now a bit loose, but I can put a drop of glue on if necessary. It was useful having the spares for sure. In the manual it says 'Additional pieces can be used as spare parts'. Unfortunately it doesn't tell you which bits are spare, so it's difficult to know if any bits left over are spares or should have been part of the mechanism.

I agree with you that the materials are very delicate, but I found the Rolife manuals in general a bit unclear sometimes as you can't be sure which piece you are are going to use, compared to the ones I made from UGears as they tell you which piece to take and from which group. I made a mistake of not waxing the gears when first assembled it, so I had to redo it. Luckily they stayed. Gluing does help even though the manual doesn't ask for it. :) Somebody commented on this video that they would've painted the faces so you can see the numbers. I agree with them, but I'd like to keep mine organic. I might darken the numbers so you can tell what time it is. The sound of it ticking is relaxing. ASMR. :) Hope you enjoyed building it.

@@Pixelographic Mostly the materials were fine. It was just the spacers F4, F5 & F6 that I had a problem with. The hands and dials could certainly do with a bit more contrast, but as you say it's nice to leave it organic. I might print out a front for the faces. With the hands I could flip them and paint the B side which leaves the option of getting the natural look back. It was great fun to make. I’ve become a bit obsessed with mechanical time keeping since finding the Wristwatch Revival channel. Highly recommended. I’ve even ordered a mechanical watch! A double skeleton so I can see both sides of the movement. I’m on the lookout for a secondhand mechanical clock to play with.

Flipping the hands sounds like a good idea, and I don't think it will affect the overall look once you decide to use the other side again. It's like having skins on the clock. I have become obsessed with mechanical puzzles too. I like that they move and are functional. You might want to build the Aero Clock. I can't stop watching the hot-air balloon go down every hour. I have just finished building the Jollylook Pinhole Camera and will be uploading the video once I have taken some pictures with it.

gracias. y estoy de acuerdo con que las manos no sean muy visibles, pero me gusta mantenerlo orgánico.

Mine didn't at first as I forgot to file and wax the gears. So I had to file the gears carefully, and use small bits of wax on them then melted it with a heat gun. It worked eventually.

It was as the part where the pendulum is hanging is a bit flimsy. Well, the material is not very sturdy.
