BUILDING MY 1300 GALLON PLYWOOD AQUARIUM PT.4
In this video we’re continuing the build of the 1300 gallon plywood aquarium! This is pt.4 and by the end of this video, I have the aquarium wrapped in plywood. The holes filled with wood filler and the exterior stained and sealed with wood sealant. This project is coming along quickly. Next, I’ll have to sand and fiberglass. Tip Glue every single point of contact with waterproof wood glue, corner seams, stud contact points, joint seams. The addition of glue brings the strength of woodworking to the next level besides the added benefit of the first step in waterproofing

Yes wood glue is stronger has a longer open time with silicone you have to work quickly plus the wood glue is formulated to penetrate the wood fiber and bond its cheaper in bulk and they make special types for waterproof also any silicone on your plywood may cause adhesion problems with your next waterproofing step hopefully fiberglass then epoxy

I don’t think you needed to overlap the seams with the 2x4 structure. The product you’re using should be more than sufficient to be leak proof. Also I would’ve used a fiberglass reinforced body filler to mix up and fill the seams in the plywood and screw holes. It’s 2 part so it will be guaranteed to dry unlike that wood filler. I also would’ve used a ton of liquid nails to laminate those plywood sheets to the structure.

Probably didn’t need it but it’s just a piece of mind. I’m learning on the job, the next plywood build may be entirely different. But the goal for me is to not have this one fail. I appreciate all the advice you provided.

I love the build and the channel, i just have one question why didn't you build it out from the wall? like a foot or a few inches? being so close its no room for any future problems or emergences. almost like a crawl space sized space is what i am wondering.

Thank you. I appreciate it. As for why I didn’t make it a few inches from the wall. Space…. My garage is only so big and I have to build a 3000 gallon freshwater pond next. I’ll have a 36in walkway once both of these builds are completed. Hopefully I won’t need to access the back of it.

Looking good Cleveland one thing I would suggest doing after you’re done fibreglass is to use pondshield then it’s not going to leak at all
