So as a prototype this is really cool, but I think for it to hold up over time and to look even better, you should consider replacing the veneer or the metal sheet with laser cut 2mm plywood, so the covers fit better and don't fray at the edges. You than also don't have to cut out the speakers. You also could use small magnets to hold the covers on. For cooling purposes you could look into water cooling and add the fans at the back of the table. And you should definitely replace the foam under the power supply with something sturdier, cause this will compress over time and no air can pass.
@pierreboyer9277
@pierreboyer9277 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your ideas! Yes you're completely right, steel and veneer is hardly a good solution. It's very much too complex to manufacture. Plywood is the way I'm going for my second prototype and it looks very good. Though 2mm is too thin with plywood, I used 8mm with my intermediate prototype and it's good. I think I can reduce to 5mm if I find a strong birch plywood. Small magnet may not be required because the covers hold very well. The question is more how to enable easy opening of the covers. I'm investigating push push mechanism. Such are used with magnet for kitchen furniture. That might be the thing. The thing I used is very hard, it's not really a foam, I used that word because I don't know the correct one for that. It's the thing that goes under chairs to avoid screeching noises. But overall the thermals on that first desk sucks. I'm redesigning it completely and I think the next prototype will be really super cool, even while using mostly passive cooling and air cooling. I never seen a heatsink as big as the one I'm planing actually :)

I wouldn't really agree. While some of these fancy feature and ideas seem nice at first glance they are not very practical in the long run. The power sockets for example. He states you can plug in extra monitors and peripherals. Nice but where is the cable going to be routed to the peripheral? You need to leave the cover open and that negates the entire point of it being covered or hidden in the first place. Most of the panels are made to size. That means that upgrading the scanner, printer or anything else other then the computer would be a pain. Also I'm not really a fan of all the bumps, ridges and holes that the panels create. Imagine writing anything on it, specially with the second monitor right in front of you. I know that's not the point of the desk but it is a desk after all and most of us need to write something sooner or later. I don't want to bash on his project. I like it, if not for anything else because of the high amount of effort that went in to it. I respect people like that. I'm just trying to make a point.
@OnlyStRikER
@OnlyStRikER 2 жыл бұрын
@@winnetouch bro you got to count that LTT has a lot of budget plus a lot of man power, tools and skills. It's a personal point of view but I feel the whole point of making a pc cum desk is for minimalism or reducing crap from your table. you definitely want your desk to be looking(slim) as a regular desk so rest features are optional. Plus adding functionality is of way more value than showcasing your components. .. BTW I love LTT but still transparent here.
@pierreboyer9277
@pierreboyer9277 2 жыл бұрын
@@winnetouch Regarding the power sockets, there are actually holes that let you root the wires to the main cable hole (which is underneath the external monitor for it's HDMI and power.) And to write you can write on top of the integrated screen, which is where a paper would naturally rest when sitting at the desk.

While I love the idea behind this all-in-one desk, I'd be extremely concerned about thermals for longer use sessions. It would have been well worth it to make it a little thicker in order to fit an AIO or water loop in my opinion.

Covid has meant to many of us are working from home and space is very limited so I would love to see a kick starter for this kind of project. Many of us have a work PC and a home pc integrating the home PC into the desk it's self is a great ID I think a kick started version should have a way to dock a macbook or similar laptop so only one power cable and one monitor would be required!

You ought to launch this! Some ideas to make this the ultimate desk (I got excited!): - add a motor to make the desk a sinking one with adjustable height - make the tablet in front of you capable of inclination so that you can lift it a bit and read more relaxed - add some led lightning in the storage decks as well as in the back side of the desk.
@pierreboyer9277

Thanks ! For the standing desk legs, it's definitely possible to add some. I didn't used such initially because there was already many things to see here and Ididn't want the standing desk legs to be a distraction. For the LCD, it's a good suggestion. A mechanisme could enable to do that. I'll have to check what king of mechanism are usually used for this kind of things. And LED yes I could have put some in there I guess :)
@tterranigma2
@tterranigma2 3 жыл бұрын
@@pierreboyer9277 Sth more you could try, you could put this mechanisms in the lids that when you press them down they "unlock" and you can lift them, and when you press them down again they lock. So that it is a bit easier to lift the lids. Magnifique!

As a graphics designer i appreciate the efforts and time you have to put to get the project done. About the monitor, of I would go for professionally calibrated display, For Keyboard and mouse Logitech Craft and MX 3 will be my choice.
