A neodymium magnet glued to the USB hub, battery charger, etc., works better than velcro to attach items to the Wall Control metal pegboard. I have the Wall Control metal Pegboard; everything I use has magnets. LTT store has a line of magnetic cable organizers that can be used anywhere.

That turned out very cool! A tip on your question about drilling the hole. You could screw or glue a board with a hole as a guide in front of the pegboard. And then drill through both. That way the drill can't run off.
