To keep my mom's raised planters from rotting when I built them for her, I lined them with black plastic. This kept moisture and worms/bugs in the soil from the wood. They lasted over twenty years.

I lined mine with leftover plastic from 2 large pallets of wrapped wood pellets. That was my husbands idea. It’s not as tidy as rolled plastic, but that’s ok.
