I welded 2 of the weldable 90 degree elbows on the poles, slight miter cut to align with the A. Then welded 2 flat square plates with 4 bolts at each corner of the plates. They have spacers, then attached 2 pear links at 2 of the bolts, 1 for the poles chains, the other holds a snatch block for the winch cable. Works well. Great video, thanks!!👍👍

to anyone making one of these, consider welding a crossmember where he has the hooks for the chains and welding a loop in the center of the crossmember for a hook and pulley. then a winch on one side of the bed with a cable run thru the pulley and attached to the opposite side of the bed will allow the tension to be distributed onto both sides of the truck bed equally. also used to retract the poles

They make these hitch receivers and threaded hitch pins, for the soccer moms to put their bike racks on their SUVs, but they work great as a base for tools, like your vice, they take all the slop out of the hitch. If you look at one it's easy to see how to do one with a nut welded on for next to nothing. Probably doesn't bug you but I hate it when my vice is wobbly, hah. Picking up my f550 tomorrow, 7.3, 6spd manual, gonna build a gin pole truck out of it. I'm a machinist/millwright, so I need to hoist machines up to the max load of my truck, like 10k lbs, but Im a farm boy welder at best, wish me luck, hah.

@@harleynightster12 yes sir, but as long as it gets the job done it's perfect enough, I have a pretty unique set of poles that pins in to the top of the bed rails on my custom tube step side short bed, still picks up 2900 lbs so good enough

Too make your poles stronger is slide the 2-3/8 inside the 2-7/8. Got a friend that built his that way

@JacobPritchett Hey Jacob I don't know if you'll see this but if you hook up on the bottom pulley behind it towards your truck cab and you lift on the winch you will pull the poles towards your cab and adjust from there because you don't have to get on your bed to adjust your poles

I’m going to start a build of one of these to set 400 LB trusses 22 ft , up , with a 1500 lb, rated winch , going to build it on a 1 ton flatbed , just wondering what size pipe or thick wall square to use

Is that the thin soapstone and holder? If so how do you load that holder without breaking the soap stone?

Yes it is, the holder has a tab that bends inward to keep pressure on the soap stone so it wont fall out. You can simply bend it outward slightly to slide it into the holder, then it will go back to its inward position to keep pressure on it.

1. Do you know the amount of weight that you lifted with the 1st 2 pipes? Just a good guesstimate? 2. Have you done a test with the new setup? Looking at doing a off road recovery truck with the gin pole system. Looking at lifting at least a 1 ton dually.

With this setup, I probably wouldn't lift over 2000 pounds probably, mainly because i dont want to destroy the bearings on my axels. That said, the pipes are around 675 pounds each i think. To lift a one ton dually, you will need quite the setup. A hydraulic winch for starters, or pto driven but a beefy one. The bed and all the mounts will definitely need to be beefy for something like that. as well.
