Nice seeing someone use good screws for the mesh instead of staples. Adds a good amount if predator proofing.

Hello from Wrightsville Ga I enjoy your videos they are very educational. L have a question in one of your videos you doctored one of your does eye I have a doe that I need to doctor what do you put on it thanks in advance
@TealStoneHomestead3 жыл бұрын
I use Terramycin antibiotic ointment from Tractor Supply! Just use a warm, wet cottonball to clean the eye (never force it open) and then once it softens enough to open, I put a small dab under the eyelid and gently massage it. Do this for 2-5 days, twice a day, and it usually clears up nest box eye symptoms.

Love your build for the quail hutch! Approximately, how many adult quail would this house? Thank you.
@TealStoneHomestead3 жыл бұрын
Typically it’s one square foot per quail, so this would comfortably house 8 adult birds per level. That being said, I currently have 20 something growouts in the bottom level 😂 butcher day is soon!

@gustavogarcia19487 ай бұрын
To help save money, on the tops, back, and sides, use mosquito net instead. I would recommend for the door hatch on the doors, to be at the bottom, and not the middle, as the quails should be able to push the corner of the door enough to tilt and get out. Even better, put two door hatches on each door, one on top and one at the bottom. Great cage design, though.

It a beautiful green colour. I like the pvc hardware cloth. That’s a nice touch. Did you consider using it for the ceiling as well? I wonder if that would help with quail injuries as the hardware cloth is pretty harsh. As for the screws, I really like using 1” narrow crown staples. You can get pretty cheap air nailers if you have an air compressor and it makes installing hardware cloth very easy. Great video!

Where did you find those trays? What will you do with the eggs? Pickle them? They seem so small for cooking lol. We raise a variety of chickens plus Muscovy ducks. Our Silkie and Key West Hens lay pretty small eggs but not as tiny as quail.

Your quail hutch looks very similar to my one but there is one thing your hutch needs to be improved to make sure it is safe from predators. It was the trays that have the gap above them for predators like rats or raccoons to burrow into the hutch and kill your quails.
@TealStoneHomestead2 жыл бұрын
Predators can’t get through the 1/2” x 1/2” wire.
@龍在江湖-i4s2 жыл бұрын
@@TealStoneHomestead I was saying the gap between the tray and bottom of your wire mesh, the rats can get into the tray and bite your quail’s feet, this may not kill your quails but your quails will be seriously injured and stop laying eggs due to stimulation by fright.

They are so cute! Trying to watch all of your rabbit videos. We are going to start raising rabbits for meat. Any advice? Should we raise pure bred or mixes?
@TealStoneHomestead3 жыл бұрын
Even if you are raising for meat, I would still buy pedigreed rabbits from a reputable breeder. They will be a bit more costly, but you can always sell the babies as purebred/pedigreed and you can also get into showing or 4-H/FFA if you have kids! Reputable breeders typically sell the best rabbits from the litters, whereas backyard meat breeders will sometimes sell any rabbit regardless of size or conformation (which can yield less meat for you in the long run).
