Hello Chad, Darling , Olive and all the beautiful animals. Love your videos as I look forward to every Monday and Thursday. It it so inspirational to see someone realize their dreams as the two of you are. It is just getting better. I didn't realize how much work goes into running a small farm because Chad you make it look easy. lol You are so handy doing all the building, etc. Your thought process proves that one must plan and work hard to achieve their dream. Nothing is given for free in most cases. Thank you, once again, for sharing your dream with all of us. Until next time, have a safe and prosperous week.

The reason we have polar vortex, and heat domes, and all that is simply because we have better science and better equipment to see in detail what is happening with the weather and climate. It's not because it's the "scientists", it's only because we're getting better at understanding nature. Given that there is still a lot to understand.
@HiddenSpringFarm
@HiddenSpringFarm 3 ай бұрын
All that is probably a good & proper assessment but for me it’s a combination of the two. Here in Canada our PM wants people to pay a carbon tax cause as he says “Canada is burning” with all the wildfires. But he and the experts on the news always fail to disclose that over 90% of our fires are caused by humans and not the climate crisis.
@elisaa9981
@elisaa9981 3 ай бұрын
But *_humans cause the climate crisis_* I'm sorry to see that you pass so uninformed judgement, you need to inform yourself better. There are a lot of good sources available online, but if you are one of those who don't trust peer-reviewed science, I don't know what to say. Then nothing will change your mind. Carbon tax is an excellent proposal, and it could still be designed so that the income goes back to people with the Canada Carbon Rebate. The climate crisis is real, just ask the forest owners who have seen their life savings vanish with the attack of Mountain Pine Beetles, their epidemic spreading is a direct consequence of climate change. And even if the wildfires are caused by humans, there have to be the "right" conditions for them to spread like they have been doing (drought, for example). When you shrug off the threats of climate change, you are contributing to dooming the future for the coming generations. If you have an audience on the internet you need to be responsible about that. I'm not trying to silence you. I just want you to look into facts and then pass judgement. And yes, I'm the same government expert whose previous comment you erased.

@HiddenSpringFarm
@HiddenSpringFarm 3 ай бұрын
Yes I’ve cleaned the filter but really I don’t know why. There seems to be a lot of algae maybe that’s it but I’m not sure exactly. Truth is I don’t even know if the filter will work the way it should in this kind of setup with waterfowl. Time will tell as I figure it out. Also water fowl feathers have like an oil to them so that could contribute maybe.

So you allow your fruit trees to grow fruit the first year it bears fruit but you do not pick it and that's supposed to strengthen the tree...I guess what it put into the fruit it takes back IDK 🤷🏽‍♀️ my brother swore by this. The next year will be abundant and you can pick all you want.

for pig fence , you could use the current pens to train them to respect electric fence by running 1 strand down each side of the dividing fence. once they learn respecting electric fences it should be simple to poke some little posts in wherever you want. Critical to teach electric in a solid pen so they learn pull back vs push through when they get a shock. Looking good .

As an Edmontonian, I live vicariously through you. Rural property close to the city is 1 to 5Mil. If you travel west it gets even more expensive because it's closer to the mountains. You have to go North or East for the price to start going down, and the price doesn't start dropping until you get 50+km away. It's simply not feasible as a working parent to commute that far each day. So until then I will watch your videos and dream.

Chad and Remi, I just came across your videos, you are refreshingly funny and also full of great ideas and you are very much living my dream homestead. Your beautiful creative buildings and animal enclosures are fabulous. You have just reminded me to get my weed matt down to control the grass and weeds and also you reminded me to get my son and husband onto building some new pumpkin trellis/climbing frames. I'm in New Zealand in the middle of winter and I'm starting to prepare for spring. I'm so very much looking forward to planting even more this year. We unfortunately had to get rid of our chickens due to time and health so we are back to just our dog Remmie and two cats Boots and Tinkerbell. We have two kids and I grow the majority of our vegetables and some fruits. My husband and I are nearly 40 and would love to have more land and be much more self sufficient. One day soon we can hopefully purchase something of our own. Ps Remi I just planted my first ever Blueberry bushes too!! Rock on the berry patches!

So proud of you both 🌿🌷🦋 🏡all the hard work creating your dreams, as well as being so clean,tidy, beautiful gardens & structures you built! Truthfully 😢 jealous. Stuck in the shitty city, at 62, unemployed & poor. Watching your successes makes me so happy for you! ☮️🇨🇦💜

Those are not new terms for weather, just the non professional weather people didn’t know them back in the day. On the other hand news is intended to tantalize and even scare us. It probably is worst now.

Yup, keep the general population in various states of fear. Then the general population is easier to manipulate. But more and more folks are wising up to the game of divide and conquer. Chad and Remi are doing great work here.

Go watch Goldsaw Farms for ideas about containing your pigs. Do you know blueberries are male and female plants? The males have no berries. There are varieties that have both flowers on the bush. You seem to have the former. Good luck you have started well.

I didn’t know that, but the one big bush with none this year had some last year so I don’t think that was it.

Chad… with all your young fruit trees, removing the fruit will allow the trees to produce more foliage. Young fruit trees sell better in the nursery at the expense of future growth.

Train your pigs to an electric wire. I see a lot of homesteaders do that.
@HiddenSpringFarm
@HiddenSpringFarm Ай бұрын
@@marieparks5674 it’s not that simple though. If you train em to wire then they ruin that area so you can only leave em there for a bit and have to keep moving them and that in itself is a lot of work.

I'm curious, you talk about seeing coyotes, but do you ever see bears?
@HiddenSpringFarm

I’ve seen a bear only once, it was a fairly small black bear and at a distance. I’ve also never caught a glimpse of bear in any of the trail cams.
