Great video! Specially I like the way the main commentator summarizes the solution with a bit of more and simpler explanation. Keep this up folks! 👍💪

Best of luck to you, just remember there's no such thing as a perfect house. My advice, only buy a house you know you can maintain in the long run.

lol I disagree with the bank account cleaned out part. It certainly can be expensive but either way you will pay. even when renting. But man is Joni right about the maintenance part. Especially if you have a big yard. I live alone and have a tiny house with a big yard and it keeps me busy. Im too cheap to pay people to do things for me lmao. Plus I love to learn to do things myself.

Yay, I'm in Charlotte, NC too. With the same issue. I had a foundation repair company come and give me a quote and they quoted me the price of my house lmao. So I just decided to tackle it slowly myself as my budget allowed. So far so good. Am getting it done much much much cheaper. I will go ahead and have someone install my toilet, shower, and kitchen countertops back though so it can be done quickly.

use soap and water clean the wood then spray it down with anti-mold and if there any rot then jack it up on both sides and cut it out and put new wood in. Lay a flooring down and add spray foam to corners and area's where its rotting seems easy enough.

You can tell it was a dehumidifier because in orange letters, it said DEHUMIDIFIER right on the side of it. Mold is fungus and fungus is mold. The opening is the very first problem. See how to build a door at Crawl Space Ace in Peducah, KY. He was quick to inform Matt that they were now inside the crawlspace.

The fog machine mentioned to evenly distribute the chemical. Is that hazardous so as to not being able to be used in an actual basement???

Good points to look into wood concerns.. I pray the mold preventer and other chemicals are made or will be improved to be more eco friendly and health friendly (as these chemicals go into sources of water too). Better home improvement chemicals by using better science research and development with natural ingredients around the world.. Thanks and God bless

I was surprised to see a brick foundation in a modern built home. I am used to concrete block. Also, does the home occupants have to leave the house when mold spraying is done? Anybody familiar with that?
@confidentlocal8600
@confidentlocal8600 4 жыл бұрын
Depends on what they sprayed. I had my crawlspace treated before moving into my home. The company used a quaternary ammonium disinfectant and strong peroxide. It wasn't horrible but it did migrate up into the house through various leaks. The disinfectant smell dissipated from the living space in a couple hours but lingered in the crawlspace for about a month.

What happens if you have an existing crawlspace and add a layer of cement on the ground? Will humidity be an issue?
@unquietdave
@unquietdave 5 жыл бұрын
Yes, concrete is still porous so moisture will rise up out of the ground. You need to add a plastic vapor barrier underneath the concrete pad and seal the concrete.

@lowes
@lowes 5 жыл бұрын
Buttermilk & Cream there are many factors that determine the cost for a crawlspace remediation project including the company, geographic location, extent of structural damage, and moisture source. Calling a local professional for an estimate would be a good first step to determine the cost in your area.

When Matt first turn his light onto some black spots. That is neither mold, not fungus. Been doing this for 109 years and that is NOT, mold or fungus. It is made by crickets. Don't get me wrong. They didn't say it was mold. I just don't want anyone to pay $12,000 to get harmless cricket secretions off their wood. Seen it happen, in 109 years, I've seen it all.

I called Tarheel and they fup my crawlspace. Sand, dirt everywhere. I paid $10,000+ and don't have a humidity alarm or monitor, my insulation is falling down, nothing was sprayed, No foam was used to insulate the floor. After comparing and looking at this video, I got screwed royally!!

I like the IDEA of this video, and the last couple of minutes explaining where the moisture comes from is good, but I'm seeing a lot of misinformation put out by the contractor, and therefore tacitly endorsed by Lowe's. First of all, his mold remediation system is a joke. I don't know what chemical he's running through that fogger, but I guarantee you it's not killing or removing the mold. Physical removal of the mold from the substrate, and out of the building is the only way to properly remediate. Anything else is improper. Secondly, semantics I know, but mold and fungus are the same thing. If you've got a "fungus issue" in your crawlspace, you've got a mold issue, and vice versa.

Why block the vents. Don't you want that airflow?
@lowes
@lowes 5 жыл бұрын
Trevor Phillips Blocking the vents prevents warm, moist air from the outside from moving inside to the crawlspace, where it cools and turns into condensation, creating moisture problems.

@@saulgoodman2018 By adding spray foam insulation in each band joist bay between floor joists, it will create a vapor barrier and increase the R value of the crawlspace and help keep the temperature outside from impacting the temperature inside of the crawlspace.
