You need some sort of support near the middle of that bed. Suggest studs at both the aisle sides of the wheel well and again at both sides of the door opening. That way you will still have the main storage at the center and usable storage over the wheel wells. would also suggest screwing bed against the sides of the van so it doesn’t wobble.

Coming along nicely Jaylena. If it were up to me, I’d put some angle braces along the wall sides, and then a center brace along the middle section. That way you’ll have support and a barrier to divide your bottom two sections. One side for a closet and the other side for recreational supplies and tools. Keep at it.

You need to put support in the middle of the bed so it won't start sagging. I would build a place to put your fridge/cooler under the bed on rails so you can pull it out to use it and save space.

Yes, instead of one big area under the bed, I would make two areas under the bed, a 2x4 structure with plywood wall in the center under the bed frame, this will keep the bed frame from sagging in the center from the weight of the mattress and you when sleeping on it.

I would rebuild the frame and turn the 2x4's sideways! Then you could just screw the frame into the wall! Then you can double up the front board, that should make it strong enough for anything! Stay safe young lady!

Jaylena, idk how high your bed sits, but, could you possibly gets two sets of dressers that aren't heavy ,maybe from Ikea and place them in the middle for braces. Place them back to back. One facing the back doors and one facing the front. And try to make some sliding closet doors in front of them out of thin paneling and add handles. That way you have storage for small clothing in back and storage up front for hand towels utinsil ect. And if you wanted you could get those tention rods and place on one side of the back dresser and van wall to hand things. Idk if any of that would work .just a suggestion.

You are going good girl, but my suggestion would absolutely be to add support right down the middle under bed, & remember to turn 2x4's on their edge instead of lying them flat. If you are concerned about storing large things under your bed, you can make the extra support on a drop down hinge or lifted-up hinge. Better to add the support now than to wait till the bus is full & then realize you need the middle support. Lovd watching you build. Prayers and blessings 🙏

Jaylena, I just saw a woman's van that is one of the coolest I have ever seen. You should check out Jordan Osmond and the title is "This womans stunning camper van is the best I've ever seen!" I think you could possibly include some of her idea's into your build. One of the cool things she did was under her bed. Great ideas. Never saw that channel before but I was curious. You are doing a great job on yours. Keep up the good work gurl.

Buy two lengths of 1 inch steel angle iron. Bolt to studs the full width from one side of the bus to the other. That will be strong and you won't need supports in the middle. It will leave the middle open as it is. One piece at the back of the bus and one price at the front of the bed. Cheap and strong. You are amazing by the way. Keep going ahead.

Just left all those comments today on how to fix your bus idle problems. Maybe you nixed them? Didn't realize you post a lot. Funny thing is, I just saw your old van you just sold. That's my van! I have a 1993 Dodge Ram B250. Same exact doghouse, even. Rebuilt the transmission in 2016. A SoCal van. No rust yet. Fully loaded, great shape. Your Bus engine is pretty much the same engine as your old van. Maybe a 340, or 360hp V8? Same parts. Same intake, and typical idle problems a B250 has. Same parts at O'Reilly. No worries. You'll fix it.

Great job but I still think the frame is too high. Add the mattress plus your bedding to it and you will see what I mean. It's about 4 - 6 inches too high. You will also find you bed frame warp in a few months because your frame's 2x4s are positioned incorrectly for strength. A 2x4 when laid flat, will warp. Especially pine wood which is what you used. To correct the problem instead of redoing everything, add 2x4s underneath each long 2x4. Instead of adding it flat, stand it up.

You'll probably be sectioning for storage and other things under the bed frame thus adding more support. Might want to do something temporary until then.

You should frame your bed to the walls sturdiness and support. Right now it will be wobbly and weak in the middle! Frame the ends of the bed at the bottom of the windows and maybe think about a small cubby storage on one side since your mattress will not fill the entire space! So far I'm enjoying your content and progress!

Should add a 2x4 perpendicular to the other 2x4 under each railing. The way you have the 2x4 railings will bend over time and may crack. Just my 2 cents worth. If you are going to add plywood to the front and back will offer the same support and you can always cut out areas in the plywood for access.

Looking great! As some others have said, the long 2x4s should be on their edge, because when they're flat like that they can flex, when they're on their edge, they can't. You'll have a super stiff structure if you do it that way, and will never sag because it can't. Because otherwise the way it is now, over time your bed will sag in the middle. It means re-doing it though!

Just watched a video, DIY car camping kitchen box by Todd Parker, and when he showed his fresh water storage container, I thought of you. He uses two WaterBricks 1833-0001, they hold 3.7 gallons of fresh water each and are like Legos where they have a female and male component that clicks together for easy storage. He has two for a total of 7 gallons. They are stackabIe or could stand up side by side like he stored them. I don't know how to attach a picture here for you to see them, but if you check out his video you might be pleasantly surprised. His method of running water is neat, too. The faucet doesn't require a foot pump, but is chargeable like a cell phone and gives water at the touch of a button. Hope you find this helpful.

It was such a pleasure to see you making the bedframe, I agree that you have to have a center support to be safe, I also think it is a couple of inches too high. I don't want you to keep banging your head on the roof. don't forget that although you can sit up your movement on and off the bed could be a bit hazardous.

With some small scrap prices of wood maybe you could cut a notch out like a c shape and attach to each side of the van wall, and stain them , then get you a copper pipe and some alligator clips and a painters drop cloth and make curtain panels to go in front behide your seat to pull to at night. I think that would be super cute and go well with the burant orange colors.

The 2x4s going across should be turned upright to stop sag in the middle. To save taking it back apart you could just add one beside each cross member. If you don't do something it is going to sag badly in time. The time to fix it is now because bowed boards are very hard to straighten. You have learned a lot in a very short time. I have enjoyed watching you learn. Just always remember boards are always stronger when turned on edge. ( Rember that in all you build. ) looking forward to seeing what comes next. The bus is looking great.
